Old Town Hall

Ratusz Starego Miasta, Altstädtisches Rathaus, Old Town Hall
Poland, Gdansk
The Old Town Hall is the historic seat of the local government in Gdansk, Poland. Built in the 14th century by the Dutch architect Antonio Van Obbergen. The architecture of the town hall was created in the Gothic style with elements of the Renaissance. The amazing view of Gdansk from the 80-meter observation deck is impressive. The main ceremonial hall of the town hall is the Great Hall of Soviets, or the Red Hall. Ceremonial and commemorative events are often held on the square in front of the town hall.

We are used to the fact that the most important places for tourists are the quarters of the old part of the city. And in Gdansk, two historical centers peacefully coexist: here, in addition to the Old, there is also the Main Town. Therefore, there are two town halls in Gdansk! Although, some experts believe that there are three of them! Town Hall of the Main City + Town Hall of the Old Town + New Town Hall. The Old Town Hall (Ratusz Starego Miasta) was built in 1587-95. It is smaller in size compared to the Main City Hall, but it is located in a nice place near the river, surrounded by vegetation.
