St. Mary's Church is something grandiose! Outside, only the tops of the towers are remarkable. But inside - complete splendor. I don’t know if all Catholic churches used to be painted inside and now the walls are bare… But St. Mary’s Church (aka the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) is so stylish and beautiful inside.. ! I will clarify - all the walls and ceilings are painted, the colors are mostly dark, gothic, in a word! A very rich altar. Without a photo - it was already dark outside, from the inside, I am embarrassed to take pictures in actively operating places of worship.

Being nearby, you plunge into the spiritual life of the city. One of the most beautiful buildings in the square. A must to visit. The photos turn out great.

At the beginning of each hour from the window of the high tower of the cathedral, a musician on a trumpet plays a melody and greets tourists. The high tower (also called Heinalitsa) is 82 m high. The plan is square, closer to the top into an octagon. The tower is covered with a Gothic helmet by Matthias Heringcan in 1478. The helmet consists of an octagonal pointed spire surrounded by a crown of eight small turrets. A gilded crown with a diameter of 2.4 m and a height of 1.3 m was installed on the spire in 1666.

St. Mary's Church is the undisputed dominant of the Market Square and the concentration of the spiritual life of the city. Practical points. For believers, the entrance to the temple is free, for tourists - 10 zlotys (price of 2015). That is, the church is divided into two parts, believers go to its back for prayer, and tourists through the central part get to the altar and other attractions. What to pay attention to? - the wooden altar of Wit Stvosh (15th century), which cost as much as the annual budget of Krakow; - painting of the church by Jan Matejka; - Behind the altar you can see priceless stained glass windows created in the 14th century.
