The Collegium Maius is the very first building of the Jagiellonian University, in which since the 15th century. this school was located. Lecture halls, a library, living quarters for professors and an assembly hall "Stuba Communis" were arranged in this building, and its courtyard is decorated with Gothic arcades to this day. The Collegium Maius now houses the Museum of the Jagiellonian University, where you can find facts about the history and daily life of the university, as well as learn about its outstanding students. Here are preserved historical interiors, a gallery of portraits of scientists and university teachers, as well as a collection of ancient astronomical and scientific instruments in the reconstructed alchemists' workshop. The museum exposition of the Collegium Maius contains instruments and original works of Copernicus, a unique collection of antique globes, books and other art objects.

The oldest building of the university
The museum houses items related to the history of the university. The museum's collection includes items such as a set of astronomical instruments, including those used by Nicolaus Copernicus. Among the exhibits are also the priceless Arabian astrolabe dating back to 1054 and the Jagiellonian Globe - one of the oldest globes, which has the name America.→
