Stockholm City Hall

Stockholms stadshus, Stockholm City Hall
Sweden, Stockholm
Stockholm City Hall is one of the main tourist attractions in Stockholm, a symbol of the Swedish capital.

The building was built on the spit of Kungsholm Island in 1911-1923 according to the design of Ragnar Östberg. Meetings of city authorities are held in the town hall, important political negotiations are held, and in the Golden (1930, 1933–1973) and Blue Halls (since 1974) of the town hall, a banquet after the Nobel Prizes is held annually on December 10. The Golden Hall is adorned with a mosaic of more than 18 million gilded tiles depicting scenes from Swedish history. The courtyard of the town hall is open to visitors, and tours of the halls of the town hall are only possible with a guide. Guided tours in Swedish and English are offered daily, and guided tours in Russian are also available. From the observation deck of the 106-meter tower of the town hall, a magnificent panorama of Stockholm opens up.

One of the main decorations of Stockholm is the majestic and unusual City Hall building. Urban legend says that the architect Ostberg, when building the stairs to the City Hall, dressed his wife in high heels and an evening dress, forcing her to wander around the models of the Blue Hall stairs back and forth. In the end, he managed to find the perfect combination of width and height of the steps, so that the ladies would not inadvertently stumble on it at the most crucial moment. You can get inside the Town Hall daily with a guide (there is no Russian language).
