Bosphorus Strait and Bosphorus Bridge

İstanbul Boğazı, Bosphorus, Boğaz Köprüsü, Bosphorus Bridge
Turkey, Istanbul
The Bosphorus is a strait between Europe and Asia Minor, connecting the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara, and together with the Dardanelles - with the Mediterranean. The Bosphorus is part of the intra-Eurasian border. The length of the strait is about 30 km. The maximum width of the strait is 3,700 meters in the north, the minimum width is 700 meters. The fairway depth is from 33 to 80 m.
According to one of the most common legends, the strait got its name thanks to the daughter of the ancient Argive king - the beautiful beloved of Zeus named Io was turned by him into a white cow in order to avoid the wrath of his wife Hera. The unfortunate Io chose the waterway to salvation, diving into the blue of the strait, which since then has been called the "cow's ford" or the Bosphorus.
The Bosphorus Bridge is the first suspension bridge across the Bosphorus Strait. It connects the European and Asian parts of Istanbul. The length of the bridge is 1560 meters, the length of the main span is 1074 meters, the width of the bridge is 33 meters, the height of the supports is 165 meters above the water. From the roadway to the surface of the water - 64 meters.
According to its length, the bridge is considered the 13th bridge in the world. The passage on the bridge is paid, the passage on the bridge is closed to pedestrians (due to the fact that the bridge was regularly used to commit suicide).

Having been in Istanbul, it is worth taking a boat ride along the Bosphorus. Take a look at the city from a different angle and see places accessible to the view from the water. Swim under the bridges over the strait. Be sure to flip a coin while swimming under the bridge. The wife was worried that she would be sick, but everything was OK, it went smoothly. We landed on the pier near the spice market.

The Bosphorus is what makes Istanbul Istanbul. Huge, powerful, exciting. Wherever you find yourself, at first you come closer to the water and look spellbound. You can look at the Bosphorus for a long time. The best panoramic view of the Bosphorus, in my opinion, is from the park on the Ç amlı ca Hill, on the Asian side of Istanbul. And definitely at sunset!

One of the most pleasant tourist "attractions" is a boat trip along the Bosphorus. On the advice of local residents, we boarded a capacious boat of the company "TURYOL", which departs from the Eminonu pier. This is on the left side of the Galata Bridge, if you enter it from the side of the Spice Bazaar. The boats depart every half an hour, the duration of the tour is one and a half hours, the cost is about $4. A wonderful, relaxing trip that allows you to appreciate the impressive size of the metropolis, as well as take a closer look at the magnificent Istanbul bridges and charming fishing boats of various colors and sizes.
