Chernivtsi National University. Y. Fedkovich

Residence of the Bukovinian Metropolitans, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University
Ukraine, Chernivtsi
The residence of the metropolitans of Bukovina is an architectural complex - the pearl of Chernivtsi and the pinnacle of creativity of the famous Czech architect and scientist Josef Hlávka.

The residence is a balanced group of three main buildings around a beautiful square. At the head of this space is the residence of the Metropolitan with a chapel.

On the sides - a seminary and a house for visitors. The ensemble is organically complemented by a church, and its culmination was the domes and towers.

The construction of this palace building was a real event for Chernivtsi, near the city there were built brick factories, new quarries; famous craftsmen and builders arrived from Vienna, Prague and other cities of Austria-Hungary.

Among them was Karl Jobst, who, together with Karl Svoboda, designed and executed the artistic design of the ensemble's interiors.

Today, the former residence houses three faculties of the Chernivtsi National University.
Chernivtsi National University was founded on October 4, 1875. by decree of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary Franz Joseph as part of the theological, philosophical and law faculties. The famous scientist and public figure K. Tomashchuk became the first rector. Scientists of European and world level taught and conducted research here: economist J. Schumpeter, lawyer G. Gross, historian R. Kaindl, Slavist A. Kaluzhnyatsky, Ukrainianist Smal-Stotsky, composer and writer S. Vorobkevich and others.

After the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918 and the accession of Northern Bukovina to the Romanian Kingdom, the university in 1940. was considered a Romanian institution of higher education.

In 1940 after the reunification of Northern Bukovina with Ukraine, the university was reorganized into a state higher educational institution with the Ukrainian language of instruction. In 1989, Chernivtsi University was named after the outstanding Ukrainian writer of Bukovyna, the predictor of the Ukrainian national revival in the region, Yuriy Fedkovych.
In October 1999, Chernivtsi University was accepted as an honorary member of the International Organization of Universities "Phi Beta Delta" (USA).

Considering the general state and international recognition of the results of activities and a significant contribution to the development of national higher education and science, by Decree of the President of Ukraine dated September 11, 2000 No. 1059/200 Chernivtsi State University named after Yuriy Fedkovych was granted the status of a national university.

Chernivtsi is a very unusual city in Ukraine, and the university is a very unusual place in Chernivtsi. Something completely your own, independent, interesting and beautiful. For tourists, in my opinion, the main object. They are allowed on the territory only with an excursion. Prices are ridiculous, in 2018 it was UAH 30. They show the Marble, Red and Blue Halls, the church. I liked the guide, who told interesting stories, with humor, fluent in English and Romanian. After the tour you can walk around the area.

We went on excursions, really liked the university, you don’t believe that this is Ukraine. Beautiful facades, architecture surprises. Beautiful surrounding area. Yes, there are places where you can see that the building needs restoration, investments and attention, but even taking into account all the shortcomings and flaws of the time, this place is worth seeing for everyone who visits Chernivtsi.

Amazing complex. Refers to objects that are protected by UNESCO. Operates like a university. You can’t walk along the central alley - there is a unique irrigation system. To create this complex, a special unique formula of bricks was developed and a factory was built. The brick recipe included eggs. Upon completion of construction, the plant was destroyed. There are no analogues.

Even those who do not confess, even adults and pragmatic uncles believe in a fairy tale. ) Chernivtsi National University Gives you a full sense of the atmosphere of a mysterious and enigmatic fairy tale. Wake up your childhood dreams and fantasies. But this is not a fictional little world of plastic and silicone - this is a real place with a rich history full of interesting facts. I went on an excursion at the university in August last year and was very surprised that we have such beauty in our country.

For those who love to travel and visit various sights of the world, I advise you to go and see a beautiful architectural ensemble in Chernivtsi. Chernivtsi University is very beautiful both outside and inside. It reminds me of Hogwarts from Harry Potter. On the territory of this stunning complex there is a beautiful chapel of John Suchavsky. In the university itself, you can admire the marble, red and blue hall. In addition, there are many more interesting places in the city of Chernivtsi. I advise everyone to devote one day to this city and you will not regret it.
