singing terraces

Sleeping terraces
Ukraine, Kharkiv
"Singing terraces" on the banks of the river. Merla in the village of Gorodnee appeared in the second half of the 19th century by order of Pavel Kharitonenko, a member of the famous dynasty of sugar producers. On the hills, one below the other, 5 stone arc-shaped, south-facing terraces were built to accommodate heat-loving fruit plants. This ensured constant sunlight on the plants and made it possible to accumulate heat during the day and release it at night. The shape of the terraces and the presence of drainage pipes in them gave an unusual acoustic effect - sounds are amplified here and even a whisper can be heard at a distance of up to 60 meters.
According to legend, because of the excellent acoustics, famous singers were invited here, including the famous Fyodor Chaliapin. In especially windy weather, it seems that the terraces themselves emit melodious sounds, for which they were nicknamed "Singing".

Was there a month ago and loved it! ) it turns out that the name of this attraction is a bit misleading) the point is that you stand at a certain point and when you start talking or singing loudly, you hear like in some kind of opera house! )
