One of the most powerful towers in Podillya is the Stefan Batory Tower in Kamianets-Podilskyi. It is a monument of architecture and urban planning of Ukraine of national importance. It is also called Kushnirskaya or Royal. Experts have recognized the tower as one of the outstanding works of defensive art of the 16th century. The unique building was erected in 1564-1565. The project leader was Matviy Halychanyn, the head of the Kamenets fortification. Initially, the tower consisted of 5 tiers and had an elliptical shape.

From 1585 a rectangular extension was added to the tower. At that time, a rectangular building with a passage, which had pointed vaults, was added to the tower. The work was carried out with the participation of Camerino Rudolfino - court builder of the Polish King Stefan Batory. Hence the tower got its name. After the renovation works in the 17th century, the tower received another name - Kushnirskaya.
In 1780, the commandant of the fortress of Jan de Witte added two more tiers to the tower, a rectangular symmetrical building to the east, and the roof was converted into a gabled one. In 1928 the tower was included in the register of monuments of national importance. At one time, the Stefan Batory Tower was painted by many artists. Among them is the famous Yuri Khimich, his work - "Kushnirskaya Tower (16th-18th centuries)".
