The chocolate house in Kyiv is named so for its brown color and shape, reminiscent of a chocolate bar. But the house has absolutely nothing to do with real chocolate! )

For the merchant and philanthropist Semyon Mogilevtsev, a house was built in 1901 to carry out his work. The merchant did not live in it. Rooms-halls are located one after another, forming a long corridor, the letter "G". The halls are decorated in various styles: Moorish, Renaissance, Byzantine, Rococo, Art Nouveau. The paintings on the walls and ceiling are dominated by bright floral patterns, birds, butterflies, the interior - stucco and stained glass, mascarons, Venetian mirrors, carved doors and window sills.

Now some halls and part of the stairs are under restoration.

There are exhibitions of artists, competitions of classical music.

Many tenement houses have been built on Lipki near the Chocolate House.
