Monument to King Danila

Monument to Danil of Galicia, Monument to King Danil
Ukraine, Lviv
The monument to Danil Galitsky, the founder of Lviv, was opened in 2001 in the city center on Galician Square, in honor of the 800th anniversary of the prince's birth. The Grand Duke of the Galicia-Volyn state, who united the Western Ukrainian lands, Daniil Romanovich in 1253 received the title of King of Russia from the Pope.

The monument to this outstanding statesman was designed by sculptors Vasily Yarich and Roman Romanovich and architect Yarema Churilik. The bronze monument depicts a young prince in armor, on horseback, with his right hand extended forward, calling for action. The sculpture, 5 meters high and weighing 9 tons, is set on a high massive granite base. The pedestal with a laconic inscription "King Danilo" is girded around the perimeter with bronze repeating symbols of princely power and images of a lion's head.

One of the relatively new Lviv monuments. The monument was erected in 2001 according to the project of sculptors Vasyl Yarych and Roman Romanovych, architect Yarema Churylyk. The monument with a height of about 10 meters is installed near the Halytska Gate, one of the two ancient entrances to the city, which does not exist today. The monument is made of granite and bronze. Cast in bronze, the horseman stands on a stone pedestal decorated with a frieze with a trident in the center and a royal crown above.

I was in Lviv this summer. In this beautiful city there are a large number of different attractions. Among the monuments, I remember most of all the magnificent monument to King Danylo Galitsky, the founder of the city of Lviv. The Galician prince was crowned as the king of Russia in 1253. The monument is skillfully cast in bronze and depicts a young Danila riding a war horse. The sculpture brilliantly combined in the portrait of the ruler: a sharp mind and youthful energy. The monument is located on a large pedestal of red granite.
