Kharaksky park

Kharaks Park, Kharaks Estate
Crimea, Gaspra
Second half of the 19th century; 200 species and forms, 15 ha; p.g.t. Gaspra.

The territory of the luxurious Kharaksky Park is one of the warmest places on the South Coast, and therefore even heat-loving foreigners feel good here. In the park, which combines landscape and regular styles, there are more than 200 species and garden forms of trees and shrubs: columnar berry yew and variegated buxus, Lusitanian cypress and Alexandrian leaf, phyllirea, osmanthus, winter flowers...

At the end of the 60s. XIX century, the family of Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich acquired the Ai-Todor estate with a territory of 69 acres, which includes the western part of Cape Ai-Todor.
The estate in the late 90s passed into the possession of the sons of the Grand Duke - Alexander and George. Alexander Mikhailovich becomes the owner of most of the Ai-Todor estate, and a smaller part of the estate, only 6 acres, goes to Georgy Mikhailovich, who, having bought land from summer residents and the Tatar community, expands his ownership to 20 acres and creates the Kharaks estate, named after Roman fortress "Kharaks" (I-III centuries AD) on Cape Ai-Todor. This ancient fort is a monument of the Roman era of Taurica, as Crimea was then called.

The estate "Kharaks" was designed and built by the outstanding Yalta architect Krasnov N.P. (author and builder of the famous Livadia Palace, 1910-1911) at the beginning of the 20th century in the style of a “Scottish village”, which received an ancient name that glorified Cape Ai-Todor.

The attraction of the park is a gazebo, consisting of 12 marble columns with a fountain in the middle. According to the latest point of view put forward by archaeologists, the columns of the gazebo are part of a palace that burned down in 1882 - a copy of the atrium of a Roman house in Pompeii.
