Castle Swallow's Nest

Lastivchyne nest
Crimea, Gaspra
The Swallow's Nest castle is built on the sheer Aurora cliff Ai-Todor Cape. The building resembles a medieval knight's castle. "Swallow's Nest" has become a kind of emblem of the southern coast of Crimea. The image of the "Swallow's Nest" was spread around the world by millions of postcards and photographs.

Castle Swallow's Nest dominates the entire coast between Miskhor and Livadia.

It was built on the Aurora rock of Cape Ai-Todor in 1912 by architect A.V. Sherwood for Baron V. Steingel, a Baku oilman. With the outbreak of World War I, he left for Germany, and sold the castle to the merchant Shelaputin, who set up a restaurant here. In 1927, during an earthquake, part of the rock collapsed, but the building survived, however, for many years it was considered emergency and was closed. Rebuilt in 1971

It now houses an expensive Italian restaurant. Entrance to the site at the castle is paid. You can get to it by regular motor ships or by minibus from Yalta.

The rocky islet Parus is picturesque, pushed out into the sea. And above it, on a rock, there is a sculpture of an eagle.
At the foot of the Swallow's Nest, traces of Stone Age people were found by scuba divers in flooded caves.

The castle is very beautiful. The last time I was there was when I was finishing school. Even then I was very impressed by this place and the history of the castle. The Swallow's Nest is located in the village of Gaspra, 10 km from Yalta. It is often called the most picturesque and romantic place on the entire southern coast of Crimea. The building was built on the steep Aurora cliff of Cape Ai-Todor - it is like a miniature swallow's nest, almost hanging over the sea. The second I went not so long ago with friends.

The appearance is gorgeous, but having gone all the way to the entrance, and going inside, disappointment sets in. Nothing special inside. I'd say it's not worth the time to get to it. Photos in the background are great. The only castle of all that upset with its inner world.

If you choose a route by sea, then combine a pleasant boat trip along the coast of Yalta, accompanied by an interesting guide story, with a view of the castle from the sea and from land. This option, of course, is much more expensive than the minibus, but just as pleasant. To approach the Nest, you will have to pay the "Wicket" cooperative. On the outskirts of the castle, you can buy souvenirs in numerous tents, as well as refresh yourself and quench your thirst.
