Cape Hongchong

Chong Rock, Hon Chồng
Vietnam, Nha Trang
Hongchong is a narrow granite promontory jutting out into the turquoise waters of the South China Sea. From here you have a magnificent view of the long coastline north of Nha Trang and the nearby islands.

To the northwest of the cape is Mount Nui Kotien (Magic Mountain), whose three peaks are said to look like a lying fairy. The peak on the right is her face, which gazes intently into the sky; the middle peak is her breasts; and the left (highest) forms her crossed legs.

To the northeast of the cape is the island of Hon Rua (Turtle Island), which really looks like a turtle. The other two islands of Hon Yen are in the distance to the east.
There is an imprint of a giant hand on a massive boulder at the end of the cape. According to local legend, he was left by a huge drunk wizard when he fell while spying on a naked fairy bathing on the banks of Baitien (Magic Beach), which is closest to the islet of Hon Rua. Despite a strong fall, the giant managed to get up and, in the end, catch the fairy. They began to live together, but the gods soon intervened and punished the wizard by sending him to a "re-education camp" (this is obviously the post-1975 version of the story) for an indefinite period.

The lovesick fairy patiently waited for the return of her husband, but a lot of time passed, and, despairing of waiting for his return, she fell into sadness and turned into Mount Nui Kotien (Magic Mountain). When the giant sorcerer finally returned and saw what had happened to his wife, he fell down next to the boulder where his hand had been imprinted and fell into prostration. He, too, turned into stone, which can still be seen today.
