This is our first trip to Lisbon. When choosing a hotel, I was very afraid of making a mistake, so as not to spoil the impressions of the first date with this city, although, probably, nothing would have hurt me, at that time I was already head over heels in love with this city in absentia. But another of my heartfelt affections met with me on a date - my husband, who was initially very skeptical about my whole venture with Portugal in general and Lisbon in particular. So, it was also necessary to show off in front of him - to choose a hotel that would not be junk, modern design, good breakfasts and not expensive, yes, and not in the middle of nowhere ...

And so, after some plodding over the map of Lisbon, gradually deleting different options from the list of favorites, the Empire Lisbon Hotel 3 * was chosen.

It is possible that this option is not the best, but at that time I was completely satisfied with the ratio of the price of distance from the center of transport and walking distance to the internal contents of the hotel.

A very nice city hotel located on the rather busy Avenida Almirante Reis. There are a lot of all sorts of eating establishments around, but we never visited a single one, we didn’t have time. Near the supermarket Pingo Doce (opening hours 8.00-21.00). There is a bus stop in front of the hotel. Bus 708 to the square and metro Martim Moniz (Martim Moniz), and there the 28th tram, and Figueira Square (Figueira) nearby, and in general the entire so-called tourist center. On the 706 bus you can get to the Marques de Pombal Square (Marques de Pompbal), judging by the scheme, then, going around the central part of the city from the west along St. Benedict Street (Rua de Sao Bento), and to the Cais do Sodre station. But there from our hotel is faster, after all, by metro.

And here, actually, about the subway. One of the criteria for choosing a hotel was just the proximity of the metro.
I booked a hotel in November for February. The description indicated the nearest station, Arroios. Sitting on the metro at the airport, we see that our station is crossed out on all the diagrams. Damn, we hit ...The first reaction is a slight panic, we are for the first time in this city, with a minimum of English (let alone Portuguese), little idea of the distance, etc. Of course, nothing terrible and fatal happened, we drove to the next station Anjos (Anjos) and a little longer walked to the hotel in the opposite direction. It’s just that when they were walking, I calmly listened to a monologue on the topic: “Well, why do we (read “wife’s”) always have everything through one place. ” Already with WI-FI in the hotel, I read that the Arroios metro station was closed for reconstruction in July 2017, because this is the only station that had a short platform, and it received so many trains with three cars. And the needs are growing, there are already six everywhere.

Frankly, for those three and a half days spent in Lisbon, and we used the metro often, we never saw 6-car trains. No, I'm lying, from the airport and to him on such a ride along the red line. Knowledgeable people immediately go to the head of the train, and those who do not know then run into the last (third) car : ))

Now, actually, about the hotel. According to some data, the hotel was built for EXPO 1998 and reconstructed in 2016, according to other data, the year of construction was 2016. In any case, all the contents of the hotel are new, modern design.
Naturally the room booked was the cheapest. Cramped, of course, but we were not going to dance in it. Everything is clean, tidy. The beds are comfortable, everything you need is available: a safe, a refrigerator, a TV with one Russian channel (well, just to stay a little aware of what is being done in your homeland), the air conditioner works great for both heating and cooling.
Good unkilled plumbing, and even the shower did not leak : ).
I love new things...Well, it's nice when the tile shines, there are no chips and mold, the mirror is not cloudy from old age. There are also fluffy towels, not washed. You don't just take a shower, you really enjoy it...

Our room was on the first (in our opinion on the second) floor. They asked if it was higher, of course it wasn’t, well, okay . . Species characteristics are not for everyone, but they also have their own charm. And most importantly - be quiet! We were afraid that all these pipes would interfere with our lives, but no. By ten o'clock in the morning something began to buzz, perhaps all day, but at night there was complete silence.

In the reviews, people complain about breakfast. Yes, breakfasts are monotonous (and what can they be? ), but tasty and satisfying, quite sufficient for a vigorous start to the day. You can have breakfast. For example, I was even ashamed of myself (in the depths of my soul), I just ate these pies for breakfast - pasta de nata.
As they say, there is strength, there is will, but there is no willpower : )) It seemed to me that everyone was looking at me accusingly, but I could not help myself. By the way, my husband does not share my taste preferences, and kept saying: “Will you burst, baby? »

Would have been the most wonderful experience at this hotel, if not for a small unpleasant incident. There was a need to extend the room until the evening (initially it was not planned), we were offered to pay for our room for another day (until 12.00 the next day), which we did (with the cost of breakfast and city tax). Well, what if we need to ...Upon returning to the hotel after the final walk around the city before departure, we went into an uncleaned room. Okay, bullshit. In fact, the response at the reception to our remark, they say, is not good somehow, we seem to be still listed as your guests, we paid money ..."But you are leaving, " they answered us.
"But we paid for the room until tomorrow and could not hoot today" - "But you are leaving today. " Something like this ...Let's smile and write it off as the difficulties of communication between Russians and Portuguese in English : ))

Conclusion. We were satisfied with our choice to stay in Lisbon. Even my most important critic - my husband - praised! The hotel fully met our expectations. And it’s even good that there were shortcomings and minor troubles, they became a kind of seasoning so that the impressions of our trip would not be too sugary sweet .. .
