This is a wonderful and picturesque place to relax with the whole family or a couple, and even a company. The island is small, the main road around it is only 50 km. It struck us with its beauty and comfort, clean beaches, friendly residents.
We flew from Krasnoyarsk with a change in Bangkok via the Biblio Globus (special respect to them: no delays in departure, scheduled transfer). In Bangkok, they waited only 2 hours for a flight to Koh Samui, flew in 40 minutes. The plane is small, 100 people, but very clean, they were fed 2 times (where in Russia do they feed 2 times in a 40-minute flight?! ). Koh Samui Airport is a separate issue. It is located in the open air, all in greenery, quiet relaxing music plays - everything so that a person finally immerses himself in the atmosphere of relaxation.
Transfer to the hotel took 25 minutes. We initially chose an economy class hotel without meals, because we know from past experience that in Thailand you can eat anywhere and at any time of the day at very reasonable prices, especially since we like to sleep in the morning and did not want to be tied to breakfast time.
Bill Resort Hotel consists of different bungalows on 3 levels. We were placed on the upper level in a bungalow of 8 rooms. The rooms look ascetic - a small veranda with 2 armchairs and a table, inside there is a double bed, a table, a TV set, a minibar, something like a closet but without doors, an air conditioner, a fan, a shower room (it has a sink, a toilet bowl and a shower, but without a pallet, water pours onto the floor and drains at an angle into the floor drain). Those who love luxury rooms - pass by! This is enough to spend the night. There is no safe in the room, it is at the reception (it looks like small boxes with a padlock - but we had everything there, nothing was missing, it works from 7 to 22). By the way, for girls: there is no hair dryer either, take it with you!
From the bungalow to the beach, a small staircase leads directly through the pool and restaurant to the beach. On the lower level there are two ponds in which frogs and toads are bred - they sing songs very loudly. But we didn't hear. In general, toad songs can be heard in other hotels. We think that toads have some special meaning for Thais, their figurines are sold on the beach and markets, some notice that their songs are similar to the mantras of monks in temples. There is a pool and a jacuzzi. But few people fell there, so the sea is two steps away in the literal sense.
Lamai Beach!!!!!! ! Posh! Clean! There are very few people, mostly Europeans (Russians on the island are generally about 10%). There are large beautiful boulders on the shore. The weather in early October was excellent, the sea was calm. For comparison: in Phuket at this time it was raining and stormy every day.
Near the hotel on the beach there is a restaurant Black Pearl (Black Pearl). Great breakfast spot overlooking the sea! Prices are moderate, the same as everywhere else in restaurants. If you walk along the beach in any direction, you can go through any cafe or hotel to the main road with markets and other cafes, get to Tesco Lotus (25 minutes), to a place with red bars Long Horn, where every day from 17.00 Thais prepare different goodies . We went out through the cafe Bob Marley (you can’t confuse him, Bob Marley always sings there, Jamaican flags hang). There are also large tables where most of all tourists have dinner. Prices are ridiculous, portions are large. For example, Thai noodles (any) or rice with seafood for only 50 baht, grilled red fish steak 100 baht. Soups different 50 baht. All fruit shakes 25 baht, with alcohol from 35 to 60 baht. Be sure to try the pizza prepared by the Italian (from 100 baht to 145 baht). Go to Tesco - the prices are cheap, by the way, you can buy a large fruit basket home for 140 baht.
Massage. There are everywhere on the beach every 100 meters. What I liked most about our hotel. Time massage price 250 baht. You can find it on the beach for 200, but the hands of the masseuses there are more inexperienced. And why go somewhere in the heat at + 35 when there is one nearby.
For those who are in Thailand for the first time and do not know their insidious sun, the recommendation is not to take anything from the sunscreen with you. Everything is in 7-11, mini-mart, family-mart. 1) take protection +50 = 250 baht, 2) aloe vera for burns and irritation = 180 baht, 3) coconut oil for burns and subsequent fixing of sunburn, against peeling of the skin = 120 baht.
The nearest 7-11 is a 10 minute walk down the main road to the left of the hotel. There's also a fruit stand - cheap.
Near the hotel you can rent a motorbike for 200 baht per day. The owner is a European, very pleasant to talk to, you can safely rent from him - checked.
If you are going to ride bikes, then it is better to do it in the morning before the scorching sun. We were on the neighboring Chaweng beach, drove to the north of the island to the temple of the Big Buddha, visited the temple with a mummified monk, ate ice cream, and bought on different beaches.
Excursions. You can safely take from the Thais. Cheaper than the operator one and a half times. We accidentally stumbled upon the Robinson tour next to Longhorn. We bought 2 trips for a sea excursion to Ang Thong and Koh Tao. Cost for 1 - 1500 + entrance to the park 200 baht per person. Total 1700 for Robinson, 2400 for Biblio Globus. You can find even cheaper baht for 200, but we did not look, this price suited us. Excursions are great, highly recommended!
What to bring with you from Koh Samui? The choice is small. There are no branded clothes, only casual T-shirts and shorts, baubles, magnets, figurines of toads, elephants, coconut natural lotions. We took Thai warming balms, which smell like an asterisk, but they have a better effect (can be used for rubbing into the muscle with sprains, joint pain, colds, massage).
We also flew back via Bangkok. This time we were checked into the Prince Palace Hotel on the 29th floor and, in addition, we were given a free city tour, including a trip to the Vasakhet temple. Interesting! They also offered a paid dinner in the tallest building, Bayek Sky, on the 78th floor (900 baht) with an observation deck. The restaurant is amazing, the view is amazing!
So, those who go for the first time will not regret it, those who have been will definitely return. It makes no sense to invest in a hotel, because you only spend the night there, and the rest of the time you explore the island or just lie on the beach. It makes no sense to take breakfast at the hotel, because as long as they don’t have their own kitchen, they order somewhere, and warm up at home, and the breakfasts are monotonous - it’s better to eat in the Black Pearl or in any nearby restaurant - the prices are about the same.
Don't worry! Relax!
