Good afternoon! I will try to supplement the information from the previously written reviews)))

My boyfriend and I stayed at Ibis Phuket Kata from 17.01 to 30.01. 11 y.

The hotel is located in Kata Bay, directly on Kata Road (the street that runs along the coast from the southern tip of the island to Patong). Kata, in terms of nightlife teeming with loud music, barkers, night barrels, bars, discos and shops, is a much quieter area than Patong or Karon and, at the same time, is within walking distance of Karon (15 minutes walk) and Patong can be easily reached in 15 minutes by tuk-tuk or motorcycle taxi.

From the hotel to the nearest beaches: to Kata - 10 minutes walk, to Kata Noi - 20 minutes walk to the left from the hotel along Kata Road and uphill, to Karon - 15 minutes walk to the right along Kata Road.

For us, this location of the hotel turned out to be ideal, as it was possible to relax in the evenings and walk along the nearby streets, use the much cleaner (unlike Patong) Kata and Kata Noi beaches and, at the same time, if you wish, stare at the night anthill and have fun - drive to Patong and get what you want.

Karon differs from other beaches with cool creaky sand (the sand also creaks on Nai Thorn). In terms of cleanliness - everywhere is about the same, in terms of the number of sellers of any beach food - Kata Noi is the calmest.

These beaches, like most other beaches in Phuket, are sandy with wide shallows (which is + when relaxing with children).

We never took sun loungers with umbrellas, as we led an active lifestyle and spent 4 hours a day on the beaches at the most, and more than half of the “beach” time we sat in the water.
The water is very warm + 26 + 28 C, you can stay in it and “soak” for as long and pleasantly as you like.

Of the entertainment on the beaches everywhere - boat rental, jet ski rental, parasailing, water skiing and boarding, on Katya (in the southern part) - diving equipment rental, surfboards, kayaks.

Now I will try to put everything in order:

Settlement

We arrived at Phuket airport around 5 am local time. Passport control and baggage claim took about an hour. The transfer from Phuket airport to the hotel took about 1 hour by bus and we were at the hotel around 7 am. Check-in at the hotel (check-in) is made after 14:00, as it is high season now, there are almost no free rooms in hotels. Ibis had the same situation. We were offered to leave our things in the Baggage Room and wait for check-in either in the lobby or by the pool.

The thirst for new adventures turned out to be stronger than fatigue after the flight, and we, having discarded conventions, took shorts and flip flops out of our suitcases, stuffed jackets, trousers and shoes into them, changed clothes, closed ourselves in the Baggage Room, dropped our things and went to the beach so as not to waste precious time. As soon as we saw the sea and climbed in, we realized that it was the right decision - after a 9-hour flight, fatigue vanished, and the thirst for adventure intensified so much that on the first day we ran until late at night exploring the surroundings, forgetting that the day was almost didn't sleep.

After returning from the beach, we checked into our room without any problems. Everything suited us in the room, the main thing is that everything is clean and everything is new (the hotel was built in 2009), every day cleaning, everything changes in a timely manner. Every day they left 20-40 baht for the maids.
The room has everything you need - a TV (there is 1 Russian-language channel), a safe for documents with a combination lock, a small refrigerator, a kettle and tea utensils for 2 people, a shower, a balcony, air conditioning.

Nutrition

The food at the hotel (European cuisine - sausages, scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs, potatoes, boiled rice, fruits, toasts, bacon, cakes, etc. ) turned out to be the most tasteless, but not because they don’t know how to cook there, but because in any local eatery right in front of you within 5-7 minutes will prepare very tasty dishes in the Thai style, the most common of which are fried rice (with chicken, pork, seafood), fried noodles (with chicken, pork, seafood), local soup Tom Yum, salads.

Since our breakfasts were included in the cost of living, we had breakfast at the hotel, and had lunch and dinner where necessary, choosing simpler establishments, knowing that everything would be cooked in the best possible way.
There is a geographical pattern in terms of the price of dishes - the closer the cafe / restaurant is to hiking trails and the more pompous the interior - the higher the average price of the dish (2-3 times run-up).

We ate in cafes where the Thais themselves eat, where the average price of the above dishes is 40-60 baht, it was always very tasty and fast. On average, for lunch / dinner for two, we gave 200 baht each (with beer, which my young man washed down with local delicacies).

Motorcycle rental

Upon arrival, after looking at the traffic and making sure that a motorcycle is the most common and convenient mode of transport in Phuket, having wandered for 2 days on foot and getting used to left-hand traffic, we rented a motorcycle from Benimo office (from Bena - see review below). At first they wanted to rent a bike at the hotel (there is also a service for renting bikes and cars), the cost is 400 baht per day (you can leave a passport, driver's or 3.000 baht as a deposit), but we were refused, because.
we blabbed that we had no experience driving motorcycles. After being refused at the hotel, we went looking for someone to rent a bike from and accidentally stumbled upon Bena. He offers motorcycles, cars for rent, organizes excursions and you can surf the Internet (1 baht-1 minute). His location has already been described, His phone number is +66(0)841841010, but in a little more detail, he has an office on the first floor of the building; a large sign-box, on which, on one side, information about excursions is written in Russian on a black background, on the other, a large map of the island. As collateral, Ben asks for a passport. We didn't want to hand over our documents, because if something happens, you will give any money just to pick up your passport. As a result, we managed to agree and leave a pledge of 7.000 baht. Our bike, a Honda Air-Blaid (125 cc engine, CVT), cost us 300 baht per day. The motik was left overnight in the hotel parking lot.
The traffic is wild, dense, everyone drives as they want, but at the same time they try to respect each other on the road, however, we learned how to drive (fortunately, our motorcycle, like a children's car, had only a steering wheel, gas and brake from the controls) and got involved in 1 day and in the next 9 days of vacation they didn’t get off the bike, having traveled all the beaches and even went to the Sarasin Bridge connecting Phuket with the mainland. For all the time dashed off about 650 km. Our Honda easily drove the two of us on fairly steep climbs. The average fuel consumption for the entire time was around 3l / 100 km. The average travel speed is 50 km/h (considering that there are traffic jams in Phuket, especially in Phuket Town and Patong).

By renting a motorcycle, you can save on taxis (tuk-tuks and taxis in Phuket are expensive) and go everywhere without being tied to a group and excursions, although of course you need to be extremely careful. Put on your helmets (Ben gave us 2 right away)!

For all the time, the local police stopped us once - they checked the documents (the policeman looked at the Russian driving license without category A, asked from Russia? , we nodded in response, he saluted and gave the certificate, we drove on), in general, those who drove without helmets (according to rumors - a fine of 500 baht).

The nearest gas station is down the street (in the direction from the beach) and turn left - exit to Patak Road, drive quite a bit and you will first see the logo on a high spire (blue droplet), and then the gas station itself; it will be on the right side.

Walking the streets you can see bottles of gasoline for 40 baht. It is better not to buy them, because they are diluted and the consumption when driving is higher, in addition, the prices are lower at gas stations (around 30-35 baht).

In the hotel you can take free maps (they are on the table, where bikes and excursions are rented). In general, the island is very easy to navigate.
There are not so many roads in Phuket and many signs with direction and distance to any places (temples, beaches, large shops, etc. ).

Entertainment and attractions (all marked on the map)

For 2 weeks we managed to visit a lot, but of course we could not see everything.

Big Buddha

The statue itself, the temple and the museum are located on a high mountain on a single territory (there is a lot of information about this place on the Internet and reference books). At the foot of the Buddha is an observation deck that overlooks the island.

Lookouts

We visited 3: Karon View Point, Prothemp Cape (the southernmost part of the island) and another one in between where wind turbines are installed. They are all located not far from each other (of course, if you travel by transport, and not on foot) on hills. The views are wonderful!

Temple Wat Chalong

A beautiful temple, which is open around the clock and people can come and pray at any time of the day. There is a mini-market right on the territory of the temple.
Cable Ski Park

A park for outdoor enthusiasts. It is an artificial reservoir in the open air. Here you can ride a wakeboard, water skiing, etc. Prices are 500 baht for 30 minutes, 750 baht for 1 hour, 1.000 baht for 2 hours, 1.250 baht for 4 hours, etc. You can buy a whole day for 1.500 baht or a multi-day pass. The park is cool, but requires physical fitness and skill, although you can easily learn.

Waterfall in Kathu

The waterfall is located very close to the Cable Ski Park, but this is not a grandiose waterfall, but small rapids. There are very few people there. Mostly Thais have picnics there.

Coral island

We didn’t take an excursion, but rode a bike to Rawai Bay and rented a boat on the shore for 1.200 baht, there are plenty of boaters in Rawai and Chalong who want to ride tourists. It takes about 30-40 minutes to get to the coral island by boat. All the time that you are swimming, the boatman is waiting for you. The whole trip with swimming took about 4 hours.

The island itself did not impress, because.
was filled with Chinese tourists and corals, compared to the Red Sea, not enough.

Then the boatman took us to the other side of the island (where, by the way, it was much more deserted and the corals were better), then took us to the same place where we left the bike.

Aquarium

Entrance to the aquarium costs only 100 baht. Unfortunately, when we went there, we didn’t know that the aquarium is not only a museum, but also a lot of interesting things - a nursery where they grow fish, turtles, etc. , you can see how coral sharks are fed there if you come there on Saturday and Sunday from 11.00 to 11.30.

The museum itself contains various fish, corals, etc. that live in the waters of the Andaman Sea.

8 Phi Phi Islands

Excursions are sold to the islands, but we only bought tickets there from Bena (cost 900 baht per person, round trip + free transfer). It takes about 2 hours to get to the islands by ferry.

In general, Phi Phi is 2 neighboring islands of Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Ley.
There is a pier, a bunch of taxi drivers, hotels, etc. on the Don, and “The Beach” with DiCaprio was filmed directly on the Lei.

Upon arrival at the pier, we were immediately charged 20 baht per person for "possible pollution that we will cause to the islands during our stay. "

We took a boat to be taken to Lei. Agreed for 1.200 baht for two for 4 hours. The boat completely circles the island and stops where you can swim with a mask, take pictures, etc. In the end, the boatman brought us to the “cherished beach”, Maia Bay.

Sharp Phi Phi Ley is a national park, so we were charged another 200 baht per person for entry.

It’s certainly beautiful there, no doubt, but there are a lot of people there. The impression is a little spoiled.
You can find an excursion to Phi Phi for 1.500 baht per person (I think it includes all these additional costs), we got 1.720 baht per person, but the advantages are that you are left to yourself and no one pushes or interferes with you take pictures. =)))

Bridge and monument to the Heroines

In recent days, we went to the bridge that connects the island and the mainland. To be honest, I expected to see a grandiose structure ...In fact, an ordinary bridge, by the way, is not very long. On the way to the bridge, we passed a monument to the Heroines - an ordinary monument on a trembling ring, like our monuments to Lenin.

10 Beaches

Most of all I liked Kata Noi (which is just near the hotel) and Surin (it is beyond Patong). There are still a lot of people on Katya and Karon.

Markets
There are nomadic markets in Phuket (on days of the week), they are on Kata (works on Mondays and Thursdays, 5 minutes from the hotel on foot - to the right along Kata Road, at the first intersection again to the right and 250 meters straight towards Patak Road, on the left you will see a fence and the market behind it), on Karon (at the northern tip, right behind the ring), on Kamala (closer to Patong). The large market is located between East and West ChaoFa Rd. , before reaching 800 meters to the Central Festival (Weekend Market, open on weekends). In the markets, knitwear and fruits are many times cheaper.

Price example

For fruits: pineapple for 25 baht in the market (from 50 baht on the beach), mango for 70 baht per kg.

For food: we ate where the Thais themselves eat. Rice or noodles, for example, 30-50 baht, their national soup from 60 baht. As a rule, there is a counter with a menu in front of the cafe - you can see the order of prices.

For souvenirs: For souvenirs, go to the wholesale gift shop. A magnet there costs 30 baht, when they ask for 100 baht on the beach (you can bargain for 60, but it still turns out more expensive).
On a kayak: we rented a single kayak (boat) for 500 baht for 2 hours on Kata Beach, drove around the island on it, which is located at the northern end of the beach (between Kata and Karon), later we saw that prices for renting kayaks on Nai Harn Beach and surf boards are 2 times smaller and you can take single and double kayaks.

At Banana Pancake (they are sold from carts, at first we thought they were ordinary pancakes like in Blinoff): we bought for 15 baht per piece. , on the beach from 35-50 depending on the filling.

We haven’t done much yet, for example, we haven’t gone to the zoo, we haven’t gone to the Similans, we haven’t explored the eastern part of the island, we haven’t gone surfing (season from April to September), we haven’t ridden elephants, we haven’t gone rafting, a cable car where you can fly on ropes that are stretched between trees, etc. Despite the fact that every day we went to new places, it is difficult to explore everything and see everything in 2 weeks - there are a lot of interesting places in Phuket.
We really enjoyed our vacation!
