Gathered to go for a couple of days in Kamenetz-Podolsky to see the city and its surroundings. The hotel "Taras Bulba" was chosen for the settlement. There were several reasons: the convenient location of the hotel, good reviews on the site, and the fact that I prefer small hotels over concrete giants. I don’t know if we were so unlucky, or if the good reviews were written by people who have never been in normal hotels? But there were more cons than pros. I want to make a reservation right away that I am not a snob and I am not looking for negativity, but this negativity is just from all sides and it was simply impossible not to pay attention to it.
So, let's begin.
Appearance and location: the appearance of the hotel is really fully consistent with the description on the site. It looks pretty nice, and harmoniously fits into the architectural ensemble of the old city. All major attractions are within walking distance. In the basement there is a restaurant in a medieval style (I’ll tell you about it later), there is a restaurant’s summer terrace, parking is available, the patio is small, but quite cozy. The hotel borders on the "coolest" hotel in Kamenets - "Amadeus" prices in which exceed 900 UAH. For a standard room per night. Across the road opposite is a pizzeria, a couple of meters from the final minibus number 1.

Number. We settled in a two-room suite proudly called a junior suite, for some reason it was called a suite at the reception. The price was 440 UAH. per day. But to call it neither a suite nor a semi-luxe language does not turn. For those who wish, I immediately say that this is No. 15. Located on the 1st floor at the end of the corridor. 2 windows overlook a rather busy street, its carriageway. I will summarize what spoiled the whole impression:
1) Despite the fact that the number is 2-room, there are 2 sofas, the necessary furniture and air conditioning, he himself is not cozy. It seems that the staff just does not like this room.
2) The room has a small refrigerator and it is stated that it is also a mini-bar. But the minibar is empty! This is the first time I've seen a hotel refuse to earn money on a mini-bar. In addition, after 23:00 in the old town, almost everything is closed and there is simply nowhere to replenish supplies of the same mineral water, beer and chocolate.
3) One of the windows has half-torn blinds. Are they really that hard to get right?
4) The plumbing in the bathroom is leaking!
5) We saw living creatures in the same bathroom, which was represented by insects: black cockroaches and one centipede. The centipede was crushed, the black cockroaches managed to escape.
6) The shell is cracked
7) The pedal in the wastebasket does not work
8) There is hot water, but in order for it to flow in the shower, we had to drain the water for at least 3-5 minutes. For some reason there was no hot water in the sink. What is the secret of such a plumbing miracle has remained a mystery to us.
9) There are hygiene kits, but the staff just carelessly piled them on a shelf in the bathroom in a single pile.
10) Despite the presence of double-glazed windows, there is no soundproofing, so the roar of cars and excursion groups are heard in the room perfectly, if the window is open, then the exhausts are also provided to you.
To some this may seem like a small thing. Yes, these are trifles, and you can close your eyes to each of them individually, but when they accumulate, they simply start to cut your eyes. And the last thing that finishes - NEVER FOR 3 days and 2 nights of stay, NO ONE CLEANED THE ROOM! I'm already silent about changing linen, towels and replenishing shampoos and shower gel.

FOOD AND RESTAURANT. Breakfast is included in the price, but the system is very strange. Meals take place in the same basement restaurant, which claims to be a concept establishment. At the reception, they ask in advance what kind of breakfast you will order and for what time. No buffet and strictly 2 options that are unchanged, no matter how long you live in this hotel. It remained incomprehensible - why call the time when you still had to wait for this very breakfast? Plus, there were always surprises. We every morning (and there were 3 due to early check-in) we watched the evolution of these breakfasts (we always took both options). In one version, toasts were announced - we didn’t see toasts, the waitresses answered that there were no toasts and they were replaced with bread : ) -e - instead of pancakes there were 4 slices of orange, for the 3rd pair of small pancakes. The portions are small, it was impossible to eat them. It is stated that guests can choose one of 3 drinks: coffee, tea or juice (the norm is 1 cup). But at the same time, one day it turned out that they didn’t have tea - it ended and it was in the middle of the morning, and despite the fact that the tea was packaged and very cheap! No service. Then we took one dinner, but it turned out that a third of the declared menu simply did not exist, and the wish for a barbecue was rejected with the wording - "we do not have a barbecue. " Why, for this purpose, to paint on the menu a whole list of dishes that are cooked on the grill so remained incomprehensible to us. The waitress could not properly explain what the dishes are. So to the question: “Do you have dumplings with fresh cherries or canned ones? ”, the answer was received: “We have dumplings with cherries”. When the question was repeated, a more detailed answer was received - "We have dumplings with real cherries. " As a result, dumplings with canned cherries were served. : ) The summer terrace is even worse maintained. You will not wait for the delivery of a standard set: salt, pepper, toothpicks, napkins; no changing the ashtray, no wiping the table. The upper terrace is made as a bar, but we didn’t see the bartender there all the time.
To be honest, for all establishments in Kamenetz-Podolsky, such an attitude to service in establishments is the norm. The food is usually good, but the portions are not big. They constantly save on something: either on sauce, or even on bread. If you arrive at a restaurant at 10:45 pm, you will most likely be refused service or asked, “Will you have time to drink your coffee? Are we open until 23:00? Checks are not given anywhere! Without a reminder, neither the hotel nor the network pizzeria will give a check, even a ticket to the fortress can be sold to you without issuing a ticket! So travel travelers keep that in mind!
Pluses: of course they were, but they are few.
1) Sane concierges, but deaf to remarks about the kitchen
2) Good location
3) We took things to the storage room for free
Total: Unfortunately, Kamenets, as it was and remains the city of one day. One day is enough to visit the main sights. This is echoed by the entire infrastructure. Although there are a lot of tourists in the city, they have not learned how to serve them normally. There was no desire to return to the Taras Bulba Hotel again or spend one extra day there. It's a pity, because in Ukraine there are cities where they know how to serve normally and efficiently! But Kamenets is not yet one of them.
Helpful advice: a taxi from the station to the hotel (if called through telephone services) costs 14 hryvnia. At the station, they will try to take 30 UAH from you. True, some telephone services turn off their mobile numbers at night and earlier in the morning and turn them on after 9:00 : )
