Hotel "California" is located on a quiet central Jewish street, right next to the synagogue. To Deribasovskaya street about 6 minutes on foot. The hotel is new, only opened in August 2012. So we were lucky to stay in a room where no one else had lived.
The hotel has 4 stars. And we answer them completely. The hotel is not the biggest - 44 rooms. But there are so many different categories of rooms: singles in the style of an expensive compartment, classic doubles, superior doubles, suites, and presidential suites. My choice fell on the suite. Suite has 2 rooms:
- a bedroom with a large bed, two bedside tables
- a living room with two huge windows, a balcony, lovely armchairs, a tea table, a huge table with a large TV on it, a mirror in a heavy gilded frame
- a corridor with a large closet equipped with hangers, a safe, shoe/clothing items; and place for suitcases and shoes
- the room also has 2 bathrooms; one is larger with a window and a classic bath, the other is smaller with a shower.

The bathrooms have small sets of necessary things, such as shampoos, soaps, shower gels, hats, towels, cotton pads. The towels are not the best quality though. Their particles sometimes remain in the hair)
The room has a mini bar. But for some reason, in the first days it was empty, then it was only half filled, judging by the price list. There is no alcohol, although I didn’t really like his list. Only hard drinks. And so there is sweet water, tonic, juice. On the first day of filling there were still 2 types of mines. water. But then the hotel administration decided that it is better to keep free water at the reception, where you can just ask for it. True, she did not always stay there in the evening.
It also has 2 entrances. Which was very unusual for me.
This room, and all the others, has a classic hotel style. A palace of rich dark tones on the floor with a beautiful ornament, pleasant cream-colored wallpapers and various patterns depending on the zone, furniture a la mahogany, heavy chocolate curtains. The bathrooms are finished with beige marble-like tiles. In general, classic luxury, but in a fairly economical design.
The lobby of the hotel is just fine. Pale pink walls combined with small diamond-shaped mirrors, white and pink marble on the floor, furniture a la Ludovic in rose gold tones, a heavy crystal chandelier. Unfortunately, there is nothing in the lobby apart from the reception desk and upholstered furniture. So you can only sit there, wait for a taxi. As I understand it, the restaurant is located on the second floor and has balconies overlooking the lobby. I haven't been there as it only works for breakfast so far. The hotel has a beauty salon, but it is still under renovation (
Stairs, corridors - everything is very beautiful, pompous. But here are the elevators, and there 2 of them just let us down - these are ordinary elevators from economy class residential buildings. No mirrors, no couches, just blue iron and cold white light. Yes, and at first they worked very strangely - on the 5th floor, where we lived, you could only go up, but there was no way to go down. Either on foot or up to the 4th floor. Later this situation was changed.

The hotel staff is very pleasant. Any of your requests are fulfilled as quickly as possible, courteously, the word "sorry" is held in high esteem. There is always a boy standing at the door, you can’t call it a maî tre d’, and he opens / closes the door, helps to park.
Here the maids are not their forte. I hope they change them. When you forget to tell the "do not disturb" sign, they will begin to disturb you, and masterfully. At first they knock loudly and persistently, but for some reason they don’t open the door to see if there are people in the room, then, when you tell them half-drowsily to come in later, they don’t leave, but ask how long they will come, do they need to be cleaned in principle, etc. . d. In general, if you want to get enough sleep, then hang a sign for sure, otherwise they will wake you up with questions completely. But they clean up just fine. You rarely see such purity.
You can bring guests to the hotel, time is not limited. There are pluses in this, but also minuses, especially if the guest is not yours, but a neighbor's and he has night use.
In principle, the hotel is really beautiful, brilliant for its category; the staff is very pleasant, hospitable, understanding, kind, but such a premonition that all these people are working in a hotel for the first time, everything is somehow naive; prices are great. But since the hotel is still new, there are small flaws in the form of something that is not working, moreover, it is not working because it is broken, but because they simply forgot to connect / turn it on, etc. And the hotel has nothing to offer other than sleep, shower, dry cleaning, parking and breakfast. Those. there is no room service as such, no one will bring food, in the evening / at night even water, go down to drink coffee, something stronger is also impossible. But it looks like it's all coming soon.
But I recommend the hotel anyway!!!
P. S. photo from the site, our number was not blue, but burgundy - it looked better in this style.
