After reading guides to New York on the sites, I realized one thing - you need to write your own: )

I will not overload this story with subway schedules and transfers, but I will tell you about New York in the context of my travels. I hope you find it interesting. Enjoy reading! : )

Everyone in New York starts with the airport, diagrams, signs, and I have New York started with the plane. It turns out that anyone can stay to live at the airport, if you sleep through the moment when the flight attendant hands out a form to fill out. So I woke up and saw a suspicious picture, when everyone is filling something, and I was left without work. In my sleep, I found strange questions about the transportation of drugs, weapons, chemicals and other activities of the Russian mafia, but I answered all the questions and put the form in the pocket of the front seat. Not to forget.

At the customs control, I again (as in the embassy) confused my fingers on the scanner, and at the request of the officer to smile at the camera, asked: "Where is she? ». After all, at that moment I was photographed by a portable webcam, which is attached to a mobile rack.

Receiving luggage is no different from the procedure of going to the supermarket, only here the goods do not lie, but go. If you notice your suitcase, go to the tape without panic and pull it to the floor. You should not hold the handle of the suitcase and run with it along the movement of the tape, knocking down tourists. If you can't pick up your suitcase, just ask for help from one of the passengers or airport staff.

Well, then everything is like at the Kiev railway station. You are surrounded by people from the former USSR and the carousel begins - "Inexpensive in the center", "Do you want to register? " », « Apartment rent is not given? ».

My advice - try to walk past with a calm face and remember - if you really want to help - they want to make money on you.

That's why after a short call home to my grandmother and the words - "I'm fine, the organs are in place, the passport was not taken away", I went to the counter with a letter and what in America means information office. To my horror, I could not squeeze out a single full sentence in English. It turned out something like "Mi…. ееммм… хев… ээ… hostel ». Ironically, I was not attacked by the center's staff and I didn't even see the ridicule on their faces. I was just asked to print out the contacts of the hostel I had booked in advance

So, after the employee of the info-center listed 10 possible options to leave the terminal, I chose the simplest shuttle of the info-center.

Right at the counter I was handed a number plate, and when ten people like me gathered, we went on a journey through the traffic jams of New York. It's called the shuttle service, cheaper taxis, faster buses, safer subways.

First of all, New York teaches you to think about money. About where they are going, how much and why. By the time I handed the shuttle driver $ 20, I had no doubt that I would receive the delivery. As you can see, I never saw my $ 4. Honestly, after a long flight, I simply did not have the strength to look at the convulsive attempts of the driver to find surrender within a few minutes. Money fraud continued for me in the store "all about 2 dollars. " Now you can say that I am behind in life and that we have such shops at every turn, and everyone knows that everything is more expensive there. And then we only sold ice cream in cups of 80 kopecks and Love is chewing gum with wrappers in transitions.

So I bought an adapter for American sockets not for $ 2, but more expensive. And for how much - I will not say. It's a shame. : ) So go to the radio market and as soon as possible!

It is necessary to take care not only of the adapter for sockets at home. Think of soft and comfortable shoes. To spoil the first impression of New York, these two things were enough for me - to rub my foot and find that I will not be able to charge my cell phone with my charging. Also a problem for many of my neighbors on the plane were suitcases. If you are a girl and want to meet all the men who work at the airport, the surest way is by no means a mini-skirt. A large, preferably two large suitcases with things, bedding, pillows and of course buckwheat. How to fly to the States, to the edge of the Earth without two packets of buckwheat ...My advice to you is to bring a backpack and an empty suitcase! On the way back he will be killed. : )

Well, then you will have two options - you go to your resort town right away, or stop for a couple of days to see New York. Naturally, such diversity does not apply to those who have a ticket from Kiev directly to the resort and back. But since my two years in the United States were different scenarios, I will talk about both options:

Scenario 1. You decide to leave shopping and walking in Central Park for "later". In this case, you will have two good and proven opportunities to leave New York - by bus or by plane.

I decided to spend my first summer in the small town of Ocean City, near New York. I decided to take the bus. Tickets to any small US city can be purchased at the box office on site. Honestly, I have not met people who would sit at the bus station around the clock and wait for the opportunity to buy a ticket.

No, people, of course, spend the night at the station and at the airport, but not because of the lack of tickets, but because the next flight may be the next day, and do not want to spend money on a hostel. : )

The buses usually have air conditioning and a TV with some famous movie. Your neighbor will most likely be black. The driver will also be black. And if you go out at the bus stop to buy a jar of Dr. Pepper, when you return, will you find someone in your place? That's right, some black. In addition to blacks in the bus is usually 1-2 tourists, so get acquainted immediately and sit next to. So more fun and calm : )

If you plan to buy airline tickets, keep in mind that New York has several popular airports - JFK, LGA and EWR, and the latter is located in the suburbs - New Jersey!

Before I drove three times to the wrong place, I did not know that at one station trains can go in 5-6 different directions, stop at one or every three stations, or even halfway to go in the opposite direction. That is why it is necessary not only to follow the signs and letters on the cars, but also to listen to what the train operator is saying. Sometimes it is better to miss a couple of trains, stand at the station, understand and understand the system under which it all works.

Feel free to ask questions! At the entrance to the station there is a subway worker sitting in a booth. However, it often happens that no one is there. In this case, contact passers-by. Approach white. No racism, there is just a chance that you will fall for the Russians. There are a lot of them in the subway, because emigrants do not always have money for a car. The Russian will always tell, help, ask for Odessa and offer to earn.

I advise you to politely refuse the latter.

As for other modes of transport, city buses are more congested than they are, especially in the city center. I preferred to walk or go down to the subway. Hindu taxi drivers drive simply impossible. In addition, taxi services in New York are very expensive. It is especially annoying to stand in a traffic jam, or at a traffic light on red and watch as the counter adds 50-60 cents per minute. These are terrible feelings, believe me!

About skyscrapers a little later, but for now let's talk about the Russians in New York. Brighton Beach; really worth a visit. Here you can not only see how our emigrants live, but also taste borsch in the cafe "Svetlana", where the tables are still closed and put the menu under the glass. In the shops you will be greeted by saleswomen in colorful aprons and white caps.

However, unlike our counterparts, the American staff smiles even when our Soviet grandmother decides for half an hour which fish to take and naively asks about the freshness of the range.

The most important place that every tourist wants to visit is the center of Manhattan. It will be a little harder for you to navigate here, because there will not be such a simple and clear principle of squares, which are divided into the rest of New York, however, the number of tourists and police will not let you get lost and steal something, respectively. Please do not steal. If you do not want to get full board in prison - do not steal mascara for $ 3. The fine will be hundreds of times greater!

Well, if you want to look at the city from a bird's eye view, the easiest way to do it is from the 86th floor of the Empire.

You can stand in line for the tallest building in the city from 40 minutes to several hours, but you can find out exactly before buying a ticket - the approximate waiting time in the queue is written on the sign at the entrance to the building.

As for Time Square itself, it is difficult for me to describe in words what is happening in this square. During the day, in the evening and even at night there are crowds of tourists. There is a pedestrian zone in summer, and if you hardly want to spend at least 5 minutes in the loudest place on Earth, then in summer even the stunning howls of fire engines will seem like a symphony in the heart of this metropolis.

Another place worth seeing is Wall Street. Here are bank employees, clerks, brokers. In general, all those who are trying to pull the United States out of the crisis. After September 11, it was reduced by 2 towers, and many companies moved from Wall Street to other areas and even cities.

But such places are not empty for a long time, so European companies and banks immediately bought the vacated floors on one of the most prestigious streets in America. From here you can walk along the waterfront to the Brooklyn Bridge, or take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty.

Of course, New York has its drawbacks. The city is constantly being repaired, rebuilt, steam comes out of hatches and hoods, garbage often lies in huge bags not in the backyard, but directly on the sidewalks. But there is one thing that captivates every tourist - New York is open to you every morning from the last customer.

To weed out the questions in the comments, I was not a "tourist", but came to New York for the student program Work and Travel, well, it's like an exchange program for students.

Unfortunately, only for full-time students, but if you are lucky and you are still a student - Work and Travel is a great opportunity to return all the money spent on the trip and even earn a little.

You can read about this program on the site - WorkTravel. org. ua

Thank you for your attention, I will be happy to answer your questions : )
