This is the second time we come to Phu Quoc and this time we decided to stay at the Mercury Hotel. We saw it last year from the bus window when we were taking other tourists for a transfer, and we liked it the first time: a large green area, cozy cottages and the beach that we love in Fukuoka - Long Beach.

We are residents of a big city, so in Vietnam we want to live not in high-rise buildings, but in bungalows or cottages on the ground, so we booked Mercury without hesitation! Last year we rested at the Famiana Hotel, were also satisfied and I wrote a good review on it here, but Mercury surpassed it in many ways! We have never had such a gorgeous beach holiday!

Mercury pros relative to Famiana:

1) The territory of the hotel is several times larger, very neat, green and bright! Even when the hotel was 95% occupied, for some reason, no one was visible and it seemed that only a few people lived in the hotel.

2) The remoteness of the hotel from the road and the accumulation of hotels, no noise of mopeds is heard, no random passer-by will get into the territory of the hotel. It seems that there are no harmful discharges into the sea or not as much as in the urban area.

3) Only your own on the beach, there are always sunbeds, sometimes you swim in the sea almost alone, crowds of guests of other people's hotels do not come to this beach (as was the case in Famiana), and therefore all the guests calmly left phones, tablets on their sunbeds, wallets when swimming. The entrance to the sea is gentle. You go to the sea immediately from the sunbeds. No need to go down the uncomfortable steps, as in Famiana.

4) The number of service personnel is off scale (which is good). The room was cleaned already in the first half of the day, in the restaurant at breakfast every minute they are ready to serve you, pick up dirty dishes, add coffee. Everyone is incredibly smiling, and they smile sincerely, you feel like a very welcome guest!
5) The cottages themselves are very bright, unlike the famian, they are not pressured by nearby high-rise hotels, everything around is quiet. Good bathroom design. At the same time, 3 people can: take a shower, sit in the toilet, wash - and no one sees each other, unlike the famiana, where this is one common space, and the second person will not enter there.

6) Flying Wi-Fi (router in each house), Wi-Fi also catches in the restaurant and on the beach. This is important to me as I work during my holidays. It even turned out to watch movies from VKontakte, which is usually rare in hotels.

7) One of the Russian-speaking managers at the reception is constantly present at the hotel. For some this may be important.

8) Breakfast in a large spacious hall. Hot dishes change every day: there were even dim sums and spring rolls. There are a lot of fruits, and as soon as tourists eat something, after 5 minutes they take out new ones. Homemade yogurt! Excellent pho soup! And most importantly (don't laugh!

) - awesome bread! This is how you go to Vietnam and think: “Well, that’s it, I’ll only eat fruit for breakfast! ” And all the tourists, and you along with them, put bread and rolls three stories high on a plate, because such delicious bread has not been baked in Russia! Especially delicious warmed up and paired with New Zealand butter served at breakfast...mmm!

9) The dinner menu is quite good. This time we ate mainly at the hotel (we were tired of Vietnamese eateries last time, you don’t get any aesthetic pleasure from them). All 8 dinners ordered everything different, and everything was very nicely served, never had a bad stomach, even when they overate and made fun of everything ...On weekends, in addition to the main menu, freshly caught fish and seafood are offered, which are grilled not far from beach.

We tried sea bass and mackerel - just super! Nice live music every evening.
As I understand it, a limited number of products are imported to the island, so there is no extensive menu with any gourmet ingredients even in Marriott and Intercontinental, so just tune in to the "the rich, the happy" option: seafood, fruits, all variations of rice . Well, there's always pizza and burgers for those who miss home...

Some useful tips:

- the best supermarket in this part of the island - KingKong. Taxi one way 7.000 VND (about 200 rubles). Everything's there! You can safely fly without luggage and buy everything on the spot.

- from the hotel there are free transfers to the city 2 times a day, but we did not use them, as a very cheap taxi and did not want to adjust to the schedule.

- when ordering a taxi at the hotel, ask the hotel employee to tell the taxi driver where to go.

- to take a car with a driver from the hotel for 4 hours and 8 hours to go see the island will be cheaper than if you hire a taxi.
I decided to try out a taxi, so one trip to the starfish beach back and forth was more expensive than a 4-hour rental. Moreover, the driver did not speak a word of English.

- when booking, it is better to pay extra for houses that are located closer to the beach. So you are guaranteed not to see those cottages that are just being built. I must say, we have not heard any noise from the construction site for all the time.

- in the pool bar, very tasty mango ice cream on a stick for 3.000 VND (90 rubles).

- in the restaurant menu there is a fruit plate with assorted seasonal fruits. If you have a favorite fruit, you can ask to be served only that (I always asked to bring only chopped pineapple).

- take a long rope with you to dry clothes on the balcony. Nothing dries in the room and there is no dryer outside.

Conclusion: if you want to relax mentally and physically, enjoy nature, the sea, sunsets, food, silence, feel free to book!
This is a great value for money option. The task of any hotel is to make tourists feel that they got much more than what they paid for, and I think Mercury really did it!
