We returned from Dana Beach-PikAlbatross-Hurghada-Egypt on the night of August 2-3.2012.
If I didn’t have to write a detailed review, then I would limit myself to the following wording: everything that we expected to receive from Dana Beach, we received! ! !
But limiting ourselves to such a wording does not allow a huge number of biased reviews that I read during the search for a hotel to relax this next time. Moreover, I am aware that every living person has reasons and reasons for real resentment, or dissatisfaction. And this insult, even if repeated on many sites, I do not attribute to bias. A person could be so offended by something that, not relying on the readability of one site, place his offense on several at once - this way it will become more noticeable to many potential guests of this hotel and they will certainly go to another hotel after reading this offense.

This is all humanly understandable, but when the same review appears on different sites under different dates, this leads, you see, to some thoughts that are by no means in favor of the complainant! ! ! So I, when looking for a place to stay, came across several reviews of a similar nature, clogging objective reviews.
No, I am not a patriot of Egypt, or Hurghada, or Albatross Peak, and, even more so, Dana Beach. Objectively, any of the hotels has its pros and cons. And, nothing else leads to disappointment, but unfulfilled hopes! ! ! That is why I decided to write a review that does not create unfulfilled hopes in the future for the reader.
Most critics of the hotel blame him for the inattention of the servants to the Russian guests. I will not claim that this is not so. However, let's look at it from the service side.
Of course, like any nation, the Arabs have people of various political and moral orientations. There are both nationalists, or irreconcilable, and normal people there. I also had a chance to run into Nazi representatives. Well, for example, in "Kafeshka", where the main waiter, just ran into me, forbidding me to use the Arabic interpretation of the order from the Cafe menu. I won't resent him for that. Although later I became convinced that I was not distorting the Arabic pronunciation so much. At least other Egyptians understood me clearly. I never went to this cafe again.
In general, there is a huge mushkel (problem) with the search for Arabic words. The thing is that most of our sites do not offer the Egyptian dialect, but classical Arabic. I mean, not writing words in Russian transcription, but the sound reproduction of words, where only one can understand their correct pronunciation.

The Egyptian dialect can only be found through an American intermediary. However, those who know English are unlikely to memorize Arabic words. Although, in my opinion, in a hotel designed for Germans, English works almost like Russian. But I'm not here to disappoint the proponents of universal anglicization. Let them keep their opinion. In any case, it was German that helped me more in case of misunderstanding. But, be that as it may, those sites that offer text phrasebooks of the Egyptian dialect have such a discrepancy in transcription, as in the arrangement of stressed vowels, but even worse - in vowels. Therefore, it is unlikely that a busy person, like me, a pensioner, will spend so much time looking for a good phrasebook.
I am telling you this so that you understand that there was no language barrier between me and the servants: where my knowledge of Arabic was not enough, German or, more rarely, English helped, but in most problematic situations - still Russian, since in all divisions of the hotel are Russian-speaking.
But let's continue about the service. Many of us consider it a rule that once he paid, then everyone around him should spin like a top. And with what, tell me, why? ! ! Will a waiter or a cleaner get a salary increase from this? ! ! Or will one offended Russian hotel bring ruin? ! ! The hotel is imprisoned for the Germans - they are the main guests! ! ! Draw the right conclusions from here.
Next moment. Hotels are small, where on the very first day almost all the servants already know you, and the fact that you can speak Turkish or Arabic is taken into account immediately. And there are hotels, like Dana Beach, and even larger ones, where there are foolish guests and servants.
You are remembered, of course, but not immediately, but when you stand out with something good or bad for the servants. Here are some of our travelers who, like children, begin to attract the attention of adults - servants. They begin to act up, swear for any reason and throw out other tricks. And, of course, they remember it. But then they begin to wonder: why, for example, they cut off their bracelets from their hands as soon as they handed over the keys to the room. Yes, it’s just that the parents (servants) have no other way to punish the capricious. Here you get what you want! ! ! So draw conclusions: if you want to be remembered on the good side, act accordingly. I don’t want to say that everyone there loved us, but they remembered us - that’s for sure! ! ! And in the beginning, like everyone else. And we had to stand in anticipation of attention, and ourselves go for drinks during meals ...We are not scrapped! ! !

Over time, when the servants realized that we were not very greedy, we were already met on the way with an uncorked bottle of beer (I am a beer lover - what to hide) and immediately took an order for something else. Subsequently: they could already give beer, without opening, and juice - not in a glass, but a full package, and offer a bucket of ice so that all this does not heat up during prolonged use.
I won’t say that we were thrilled by this, but the damage to the family budget was not big either. Especially if you do not scatter around restaurants and bars, but choose some minimal set of them. For example, we went to the same main restaurant on the second floor near the hall and tried to sit at a table that was part of the service area of ​ ​ our waiter. True, this was not always possible, because the tables were sometimes occupied (not in the entire restaurant, but specifically those that interested us), but still, even in this case, while we were picking up food, drinks were already waiting for us.
Other waiters did not disdain us either, but tried to intercept us, but we remained faithful, although sometimes they got something. Well, here's a picture for an example: at the entrance to the restaurant hall there is a counter where a woman bakes cakes. There were two women there. The first one that worked there was replaced by the second one in a couple of days, and then the first one returned again. The first woman was friendly. We greeted her every morning, etc. : sabAh el khI (E) r, I hadr Etik (good morning, dear). Although not a single time nothing was taken from her or from another woman. We presented the Alyonushka chocolate bar to the first woman, and even during the first period of her work there, and we simply passed by the second one, as if not noticing her. I don’t know how she felt at the same time, but we didn’t care. Here is an example of the fact that an affectionate calf sucks two queens! ! !
The history of choosing a permanent waiter is also indicative. I brought myself a bottle of beer.

I poured it into a glass, and as soon as I started eating, the waiter takes this bottle of mine. I protest with my mouth full, and the waiter put the bottle in the ice bucket and pushed the bucket towards me. Later, I apologized to him (Ana Asef! ! ! (I'm sorry!! ! ! )). I put a dollar in his hand, which he refused to take, but we insisted. And then this boy served us all the time, and we presented him, sometimes with chocolate, sometimes with a pack of Marlboro cigarettes, and sometimes just with a dollar. So I will report to you that this boy knew only a few words in Russian that allowed him to take an order from you, that is, maybe even less than I knew in Arabic. And his second approach to us began precisely with the words: Vodka? Wine? Beer? I ordered one beer (wahed bira, min fadlak (one beer please)) and then I ordered everything in Arabic for him. I had to resort to German once when he did not understand the word rose, because earlier I ordered red wine (Ahmar nibid).
As you can see, the boy treated us kindly. But when he approached the Germans, their conversation looked more sincere. And this is not because he was thrilled by the Germans, but because in a hotel sharpened by the Germans, his language training in this language was initially better, and he had more opportunities to communicate with them than with people of other nationalities. So tell me, what is there to be offended by? ! ! Well, he has no material incentive to learn Russian! ! ! It is a completely different matter for merchants who have a percentage of each sale. These are the real polyglots! ! ! However, we must pay tribute, they pestered not very persistently. You say: no money (mafish f (u) lUz) or - next time (zl marra illigAya) (By the way, this is another reason to return to the issue of the difficulty of learning Arabic for a vacation.
Not only is there scatter and vacillation in our sources, but the Arabs themselves have followed the path of the Americans and began to shorten the pronunciation of certain words: in particular, they throw out the article “el” from the pronunciation (in this expression) and also shorten the last word, but understand when you tell them in full. The same situation is with the words Glory to Allah (el Hamdulella). They pronounce it briefly - Hamdullah. Therefore, when you hear from them words that you seem to have known, you begin to recognize them after some time of communication with the Egyptians). With some merchants, who clearly understood that we would not buy anything from them, we, nevertheless, started a short verbal conversation of the oriental type: how are you and so on. But profit called them forward, and therefore it was a conversation of politeness.
By the way, you will see an example of another type of trade across the road from the hotel - in the Cleopatra fixed price store.

The merchants there do not depend on the percentage, and you can walk around the store for hours, and not a single seller will approach you, although here he is sitting two steps away from you and pretending that something is counting there. Why do we expect different behavior from the waiter? ! ! Because storytellers from the market economy once inspired us with the myth that the market…? ! !
But back to the hotel. The second eternal insult: the Arabs everywhere are trying to cheat us. I won't deny it. But after all, such methods of trade are typical not only for Arabs, but also for Azerbaijanis, who have monopolized our food market, and are not alien to other nationalities who are GUESTS with us! ! ! Why, without putting things in order at home, do we enter a strange monastery with our charter? ! ! No, I am not calling for pogroms by this, but showing the caliph's double morality for an hour. In my own eye I do not notice a log, but in someone else's I even notice a mote.
And although Boris Sinyukov claimed that Islam condemns fraudulent trade, here we can be convinced of the exact opposite.
But let's not talk about sad things. Still, people roam here, striving for fun, and not for thinking about how we can equip Russia. I don’t blame you for this, because when I wander through such sites, I myself am the same. And I think about the Motherland on my website http://victor-tarasow2011. people2. ru. Interested, please. So, they really want to cheat us there. Many of the responders are full of joy that they know how to bargain and therefore they managed to achieve a fifty percent discount and similar successes. Calm down: this merchant still welded on you! ! ! And there is nothing surprising in this. It is surprising that such a store or shop can exist, sometimes not having a single customer in a day, and even giving such huge discounts.
And since they exist, then think about the quality of what is being sold and cheating on this quality. True, this is all understood, most often, after arriving home, when you come across this quality directly. So the newly-minted Khoja Nasreddins write that the cat is a very amazing and rare animal.

We ourselves ran into such a swindle twice on this trip. For the third time, the wife seized on the “profitable” offer herself, when the original price was more than halved: they traded for 500, and gave it away for 190. And when we went to Cleopatra, we saw that it was possible there in terms of quality, and win even more for the price. But this is ours! ! ! The merchant was honest with us in an oriental way. But two other swindles can be instructive for others. In the first case, we took the child to ride a camel. This attraction, by the way, can be found on the beach, intended for the hotel of the second line, if you stand facing the sea, then on the right hand near the fence.
Then he offers to send for an exchange the boy who was standing next to the horses, and in the meantime, in order not to stand empty, he, allegedly dropping $ 5, offers his grandson to ride a horse for $ 15. Where will you go when your arms are twisted? ! ! The grandson also rode a horse. At the end of this trick, an assistant appears, who “traveled” for money, and brings us change.
The second case is even funnier. We went on an excursion to the bathyscaphe. In passing I will say that even for adults it is boring. And then this excursion was offered under different names, it is also a submarine, it is also a boat with a transparent bottom, each, of course, at different prices. We chose under the name bathyscaphe. But, if you are ready that the children will start looking for entertainment from the middle of the viewing, in principle you can go. Both for adults and for children, the impressions will remain.
Even on the way there, a canary (TEZ-tour guide in a characteristic canary-colored shirt) sang us a song about the usefulness of Egyptian drinks: hibiscus, yellow tea and Arabica coffee. Moreover, he praised one hibiscus, and the second, not that he found fault, but gently did not recommend it. Already at the beginning of the trip back, he began to offer us to buy these drinks. Please note that prices are fixed. Well, the herd mentality, of course, prevailed. My wife offered to compare his offer with the hibiscus we buy at home. The price is not badass - why not! ! ! The canary transfers to another transport, without taking a single American penny from anyone, in order to take orders from the warehouse and deliver them to us on the way to the hotels. And so we go, we go, we go, but not to distant lands, but to the Senzo Mall fixed price store. Having stopped a little for him, we stop and wait.

A canary comes and announces that, apart from the hibiscus, there was nothing in the “warehouse”, but, they say, disassemble the hibiscus. And we had already gone to the Senzo Mall before that, since it is also not so far from Dana. But the agreement on the offer, too, after all, the agreement - we buy. And it turns out he has no change! ! ! Three dollars against seven he heals. Well, I couldn't resist. Not only did he double his profit by buying at Senzo Mall and selling to us, but he also took up cheating. Of course, it is problematic for residents of far located hotels in the Senzo Mall to go. But from Dana, it's a 15-minute walk. I already overpay you, even though you know that I'm from Dana, and I know the real price. You sell - so it is your responsibility to give change. Of course, he didn’t want to blow up the scandal, and change was found! ! !
But that's not all with the TEZ tour. Of course, the side business of canaries, bypassing the TEZ tour, is a purely internal matter.
If this business is honest to customers, then even double the seller's profit is a matter of a sale and purchase agreement. Market! ! ! Here I want to mention the TEZ-tour as an organization capable of standing up for the interests of the client. On the bathyscaphe, of course, enterprising Egyptians filmed video. Then, at the exit, sales of discs with records were made. One woman from our hotel, intending to leave home the next day, bought these discs and told the seller about her departure. Of course, she didn't expect anything the next day. But then we turned up to her. She, with tears over the missing $20, told us about it. Parenthetically, I note that the guide who took us to the airport, we took not three discs, but five and only $10. Yes, there is no our exclusive shooting, but if you looked at its quality, then it would not be useful to you for nothing, I think.
We looked, after the guides of the TEZ tour, nevertheless, these disks were confiscated from the photo-film entrepreneurs and given to us in order to smuggle them from Russia to this woman. The quality of shooting is not that close to that of a professional one, but an amateur still has to try hard to ruin the material like that. I was such an amateur in my youth, but there is not a single record of this kind in my archives. Although the equipment of this unfortunate operator was much better than mine, because it was not amateur, but professional. And a lot of time has passed since the production of my camcorder - 15 years, if not more. It was also in VHS format. By the way, here in passing I want to note that without special settings, my own pictures of the beauties of the underwater world turn out, like those of the above-mentioned operator, faded. They have to be pulled out using Photoshop. Therefore, before shooting, do not rely on automation, but adjust manually.

I would like to tell about one more case, although it is not from the category of swindles. Or rather, not cheating customers, but firms. And against the background of this, not entirely pleasant misunderstandings arise with clients due to concealment by canaries of information important to the client. We learned in St. Petersburg that there is a dolphinarium in Hurghada, where they let you talk, swimming, with dolphins. I immediately started looking for tour companies selling excursions there. Our child has already reached the age when swimming with dolphins is both not scary and interesting. Last year in Alanya, we were only allowed to take pictures with a dolphin, but here we were so lucky ...However, I could not find such a company on the Internet: No, unfortunately, we don’t have such excursions now ...But the TEZ-tour gave its prospectus, and there such an excursion was directly registered. A bit expensive, of course, but we are going there because of our grandson! ! ! So they were willing to pay as indicated in the prospectus.
There were no hands raised except for us. Then the canary sang that they would not wait for us there and that we would go from there without him. This statement did not please us at all, because the bus winded quite a lot and somehow I didn’t remember the way, especially since we didn’t even think of remembering it at first. After unloading from the bus, we first of all, let's find out from the canary: how we should get there, and how much it will cost to swim with a dolphin. To which he led us to some kiosk, where the Egyptian wrote us down on some kind of receipt, which he did not give us. It also turned out to be impossible to find out from him the questions that interested us. After that, a woman who spoke only English came up to us. She asked us to fill out an obligation that they are not responsible for anything, and also refused to answer questions about the cost and the return transfer, nodding at the TEZ tour guide.
And only at the end of the performance, the host of the show in Russian offered those who wished to swim with the dolphin to stay, because the company of the dolphinarium undertakes to organize the delivery of all those remaining to their hotels. Now our worries are gone. The grandson was very pleased with swimming with dolphins. He touched them, and scratched, and kissed them, and danced with them in the water chest to chest, and twice swam with them, holding on to the dorsal fin, and took pictures with them. In general, the grandson got everything we wanted for him. And in the evening at the hotel, the canary took the $60 from us. (He hasn't settled things with that woman yet) So, against our will, we saved money on swimming with dolphins. This, of course, did not upset us, but we carried him to pay $ 80, as they agreed on the phone.
I also had a lot of complaints about the food at the hotel. What to say to that. There are many restaurants in the hotel. Of course, we did a sightseeing tour of them.

Here they are, not like in Turkey: from the same dough of different shapes and with different seasonings, but each on its own. No poisoning was observed even in such a hot month as July. The natural disorder of the gastrointestinal tract, caused by getting used to a new way of eating, expressed in some fluctuations in the density of the stool, stabilized rather quickly. So the food at the hotel is at a good level. Yes, there is some repetition of the dishes offered. But you get your own food. Even for the elderly, who are forced to limit themselves in some way, the variety of food was enough for us so that we would not get bored with food in two weeks. A lot of complaints in the reviews were on soups. And such they are, and such they are. Yes, they were not preparing for the Ukrainians. They don't look like borscht. But otherwise, soups are like soups.
In addition to the offered, usually two soups, there were several types of side dishes on the table that you can add to these soups, so you could also make a regular dressing soup out of mashed soup, diversifying it with these side dishes. And in vegetable soup, the side dish was usually caught, and even chopped meat was. We, for example, soups in particular did not have time to get bored. At lunchtime and before dinner at the bottom of the bar, children (and non-children too) were given ice cream. Once our child came for him after the allotted time. They didn't give it to him, just as they didn't give it to others. And for ice cream, he went, I must say, himself, because in Arabic ice cream also sounds like ice cream (there is, of course, a specific word: gel, but Arabs themselves often pronounce ice cream). The next day, we did not have time to get close to the bar, and we were already served three ice creams. I had to eat. But there is really no baby food for very young children.
There were some milk porridges in the morning and you can brew muesli. That's all. However, our child could eat already adult food and I cannot share with you the search for a way out of this situation.
About drinks. I have never tried anything stronger than wine. I'm lying! ! ! Once, for medicinal purposes, he asked to bring the boy shvaya-shvaya (slightly) vodka. He brought it to me a hundred grams. Enough for four receptions, I had to carry a glass to the room. I am not a connoisseur of good vodkas, but the one he brought me was not much different from the vodka that you can buy even at a high price in our stores. Before, even cheap vodka really had a completely different taste. Now everything is more like SHILO. So this one was a little different from the sewing. Wines tried rose and red - everything is in order here - they look like normal table wines. As for beer, the Germans also call it non-alcoholic, but judge for your taste: how can there be tasteless beer in a German hotel? ! !

But it quenches thirst perfectly, especially if you are able to swallow sea water. And the bars in the hotel…. I didn't even get around to everything. I had enough of what I knew. The main thing is that there is a bar on the beach, because you really want to drink there, but eating in the heat is sadomasochism. The juices in the vending machines are ordinary Jupis, divorced God knows what. Once it seemed to me that they were pouring taza asyr bortan (freshly squeezed orange juice) into the machine, and I, foolishly, poured myself a glass. But in bars, asyr is poured from bags. Similarly, juices are poured from packages into cocktails. The word cocktail is understood by waiters and bartenders, because it is close in sound to Arabic. Water (mAya) is given in any quantity directly from the refrigerators by the bartenders, or you will be shown a refrigerator where you can take it yourself. Andak Maya? (is there water? ) - and they will send you ...or give you ...in a volume of 0.5l or even a 1.5l bottle at once. On the beach, you can take a special bucket and fill it with ice, so your drinks do not heat up longer.
But you need to hurry for a bucket, they are quickly taken apart.
There was somehow a complaint that there were few toilets on the beach. I went there often. But apart from me, I hardly met any visitors there. Yes, out of season! ! ! But even in season, I somehow think that many will prefer to urinate in the sea than go to the not so far located toilet. But this is not the fault of the hotel, but the vacationers themselves. Yes, this is a problem, but the hotel will not solve it. And there is no guarantee that changing the hotel will help you get rid of this problem. Yes, the lagoon, but even there the water has a turnover. This is clearly seen from the fact that water has sharp temperature drops in moving layers, both horizontally and vertically. But the warmth of the water was enough even for my wife, for whom the Mediterranean in August is an impossible cold. Here she bathed on a par with us. By the way, in the morning the water in the lagoon is colder than there along the spit in the sea.
Several times the water in the lagoon bloomed, but there were areas where the color of the water was the same color. Most often it happened in the evening, but it happened once in the morning. However, many swam, including us, in such water. Since you are reading this review, it means we are still alive. It seems that this is catching up with some microscopic algae. The fish in the lagoon are almost invisible, but they bite as if they were alive, and sometimes they jump out of the water right under your nose. They bite, of course, it is said loudly, it almost does not hurt, if it does not bite some painful part of the leg. But most often they like heels.

As for the sea. Some write that the hotel does not have it. But not in their understanding. Indeed, there is practically nothing to do with a mask and fins. In the lagoon, the water is mostly muddy. In the sea, if you go to it along the spit, it is quite transparent. The bottom is flat there and you can walk to the coral where the fish swim, in the sense - it's not deep there.
However, the hotel also has a diving center that organizes dives. I don’t presume to judge what it is like there, but German acquaintances said that they liked it. (They are without children - it’s easier for them) It’s better to walk along the spit in shoes, although you can walk to the sea and back with some inconvenience, and barefoot. Swimming in the lagoon and the sea does not require shoes. There are very few sea urchins and they sit in the coral during the daytime. You won't step on them on purpose. They wrote about swarming jellyfish, but we did not come across any, but plastic bags were caught. There were no mosquitoes anywhere in July. Flies due to watering the lawns, above the lawns and made themselves felt. Some flew into the restaurant. Ants crawled into the room a couple of times. Here I will share one observation of my wife. A special bar with a gasket is attached to the door of the room below. It's from the ants.
And when, out of ignorance, we incorrectly opened and closed the door, the gasket did not get into the right position - scout ants made their way into the room.
As for the number. The knowledge that there is a scratch on the table in the room did not interfere with our rest in the slightest. From the very beginning, we said at the reception: Mish Mushkela (not a problem) and immediately received two keys to room 1906. Having settled in, we never regretted it! ! ! And later I presented the person who gave us the keys with a pack of cigarettes and a chocolate bar. The space of the room was even enough for our grandson, who is engaged in sports dancing, to repeat something there. Well, my wife and I have not yet come across such a spacious room.

It spelled out the entire sequence of the procedure, including in Russian. But, most importantly, it had a number where to call in case of problems. The wife picked up the phone and in Russian called the problem. About five minutes later, an uncle drove up to us on a bicycle with a box of tools and fixed the problem for free. I, of course, slipped $5 into his pocket. He was very grateful and promised to be here for any reason.
We always tip the cleaner in the amount of one American ruble. Ours is not accepted, unfortunately. But this time we soiled the towel, which, according to the promise, had to be changed the next day. There is even a sign on the tabletop in the room, where it is written in Russian: do not throw towels on the floor - they will be changed for you anyway. And it was on this day that we changed the cleaner. Before that, there was a friendly guy who all the time created the impression that he was ready to serve always and in everything.
That first day, when the safe didn't open, I couldn't put the allotted dollar in it. And when we came from breakfast and meeting with the hotel canary, he had already cleaned the room. I went up to him with a chocolate bar, apologized that I could not open the safe, and therefore put a dollar. He immediately began to fuss to call the master. But we still managed to explain to him that we called the master ourselves. And, after opening the safe, I took him the allocated dollar. After that, the guy met us as respected acquaintances. Moreover, I also called him: hadrETak (Dear). And so, when we had a problem with a towel, we, leaving, as always, a dollar, came and found the same towel, and the dollar was taken. I won’t say that it was a big problem for us - there are worse houses. But you take money every day for what you have already been paid for. And I will say that the Germans do not throw dollars.
When I approached the cleaner with a request to exchange five dollars for me, the guy almost lost his mind: he doesn’t have that kind of money. And in the rooms, which, along with ours, this guy cleaned, mostly Germans lived. That is why the first boy ran to us from his friends with the words: my Russians have come. Well, of course, we stopped leaving the dollar. After that, we had a supply of hotel soap, because the boy saw that we had unpacked what we had brought with us (for laundry). A supply of shampoos, etc. But on the first day, he did not understand that it was a towel (feet). On the second day, he was also left without a dollar. And here he turned on all his brains and guessed to change our towels. The next day he received the allotted dollar.

However, our relationship with the second guy was not even easy. I can't say anything bad about him, but nothing good either.
And then the day came when I ran out of dollar bills. But on the same day I managed to exchange dollars for small bills at the beach bartenders. I had 10 one-dollar bills counted out for a $10 bill. But I, knowing the rules of good manners, left one bill in the hands of the money changer, and then put $ 1 in the bartender's glass. I describe it not in terms of distressed memories for 2 dollars (how many of them were lost for other reasons !! ), but in terms of the fact that I could now exchange what I want with these guys. Everything would be within the framework of gentleman's agreements. But we arrived already with a large number of small bills, and I did not need an exchange in the future.
