Travel and settlement

In early October we were in Egypt. We chose Sharm El Sheikh as opposed to Hurghada, since at this time the weather conditions here are already noticeably better. We could not choose a hotel for a long time. Reviews from "Hurray" to "Karaul", almost all hotels in the category of 400-500 dollars.

We decided to go to Melton, firstly, because there is a 50-meter pontoon and one of the most outstanding coral reefs on the entire coast of Sharm El Sheikh (I don’t take Tiran Island into account). Secondly, most of all we wanted to prolong the summer, the sun and the sea. Such, as many critics of this hotel claimed, disgusting food and no less disgusting service and gypsy staff, we were not only worried, but not very worried either.

We flew from Kyiv in the evening, so we were at the hotel around 22.30 Egyptian time.

A slight delay was caused by filling out a tourist declaration, in which it was necessary to record information about the purpose of arrival, citizenship, flight and passport numbers, and a statement that the tourist was not going to leave Sinai. Without a stamp on this declaration, you will not go through passport control, so prepare pens in advance and do not agree to the offers of the Egyptians meeting the flight for $ 5 to fill out this document. And although there is no sample filling anywhere, but with a thoughtful approach, you will save yourself this amount by spending only 5 minutes filling it out. Fortunately, there are always people who have already done this. Again, most importantly, have a pen handy.

The Melton Hotel met us already at night. The settlement went quickly. Of course, when asked about a room with a sea view, we were told some amount, to which we answered with quite expressive facial expressions and gestures, so no more offers were received.
But, to our surprise, we were accommodated in a good location room, from which we could still see the sea.
It should be said that the hotel at one time was designed and built in such a way that most of the rooms overlook the sea, there is practically no second line of buildings. You can get a bad number only when the hotel is overcrowded with tourists, which was not the case in our case. So, we were happy with the location, the size of the room was also more than suitable. But its equipment - furniture, bathroom equipment, as it turned out, was in a state of disrepair, it is simply impossible to say otherwise. Everything was in order, everything was intact, but there was a touch of fatigue on everything, it seemed that the once chic and solid Italian-style furniture had never been restored. However, trust me, this doesn't live up to most of the negative reviews.
On the contrary, with a good imagination, one could imagine how chic the hotel was ten years ago.

The most unpleasant thing for all the time of our holiday happened on arrival, which was very good. When leaving, we remembered this as an unfortunate misunderstanding, apparently, good impressions erase past discontent. As I said, we arrived at the Melton Hotel at 22:00, tired and hungry (remember, UIA is not served in flight). When we asked where you can have a bite, the receptionist just shrugged his shoulders, saying that the restaurant is closed, but you can go down to the lobby bar, which closes at 23.00 and something, maybe there will be. Something turned out to be Pepsi Cola, whiskey and tea. Our disappointment was so strong that we were already preparing for the fact that the food in the hotel would be very, very bad.

We drank tea, swallowed half-eaten sandwiches on the plane and walked dejectedly along the sea along a deserted alley, went to bed.

The next day exceeded our gloomy expectations. The food was decent. Of course, not everything is as chic as all-inclusive in Turkey. But for Egypt it was very, very good: more than 5-6 types of fruits (oranges, guava, dried and fresh dates, melons, persimmons ... ). Fresh vegetables in a wide range. You can blame the shortcomings in serving, as the equipment is old and does not sparkle with glass and metal, but there was plenty to choose from. So to blame this hotel for bad food for that little money is a sin against conscience. The only thing is that on the 4th day the restaurant stopped surprising with new dishes. But, again, we were never hungry. And sometimes they could even take something with them, which concerned the Egyptian baklava, which our family simply adores.
Service and Maintenance
The staff was friendly and unobtrusive, no one pestered us with unnecessary offers in order to knock money off us, although it was clear that workers here do not receive the highest salary. The uniforms were clean but worn, giving a somewhat rundown feel to the hotel's overall look. The animation was as unobtrusive as the staff. Those who wanted to responded to calls for exercise (and this was at 10 o’clock after a hearty breakfast), yoga, oriental dances, water aerobics and polo, etc. We didn’t go anywhere, because we had enough of an amazingly beautiful coral reef. We simply did not get off the pontoon and did not leave the beach, except for lunch and ice cream. Yes, a couple of times they tried to eat snacks that were distributed at the lobby bar, but they always forgot about the time, and when they caught themselves, the distribution was already coming to an end.

Sea, reef and corals

We were lucky, the weather was wonderful, there was practically no wind. And what a beautiful reef this hotel has!

No wonder, because it was built one of the first on this coast, so he had plenty to choose from. Every day, boats with scuba divers arrived at this reef to dive and marvel at the beauty of the underwater world. We counted that about 12-15 ships approached the shore a day. Moreover, next to other hotels, we did not observe such a pilgrimage of divers.

There is only one conclusion - after the picturesque coral reefs of Tiran Island, this reef occupies a leading position among the others in Shark Bay. For those who, like us, are in love with the sea, this hotel is just a godsend! I can only imagine what is happening here at the peak of the season - a crush on a pontoon, a beach clogged with vacationers, queues for ice cream ...Of course, this can be upset. but all this fades into the background when you plunge into the sea and see amazingly beautiful corals and no less beautiful fish.

shopping
From the hotel we walked to Soho - the new shopping center of Sharm El Sheikh. Modern, beautiful, clean and expensive. For one time look. The next day we went to the Old Market. From the hotel we were offered to take a taxi for $15. Many vacationers did not bathe and agreed. We, who do not like easy ways, went by public transport. It took us about 10-15 minutes to walk to the main road, where we stop the Blue Bus minibus. These buses scurry along the road every 5 minutes. After landing, we were in the Old Market in 20 minutes. The cost of the trip was 1 dollar per person one way, although locals pay 20 Egyptian pounds, which is a little more, since 1 dollar is equal to 17.5 pounds.

We went for a walk, stinted, as the prices here are still lower than the prices in other places of Sharm El Sheikh. They returned in the same way - on BlueBas and for the same money.

Moreover, they asked the driver to turn around to land closer to the hotel, which is located in the Montese area. To our surprise, he agreed, but the passengers did not object. We left after dinner around 20.30, and arrived at 1.00 tired but satisfied. So I definitely recommend visiting this market. Bargain with sellers. Of course, the situation with this is not the same as it used to be 3-5 years ago, it happens that sellers resist and are unpretentiously rude (the global crisis, obviously, affects everywhere). But the bulk is bargaining and making concessions, because this is a market, and because this is Egypt after all.

Shopping Center "Daria"

Our last shopping experience was at George Clooney's store. Although this is not true at all. I'll tell you in order. We were talking about him all the time. That it is located next to the hotel (nearby - it's 15 minutes by taxi), and in it the assortment and prices are comparable to the Old Market. In addition, we were encouraged by a free transfer from the hotel and back.
Therefore, we agreed and went to this store as a tour.

We were not under the illusion that it would satisfy the buyer who was at the Old Market, and therefore, when everyone saw it, there was no disappointment. Just didn't hit it. Shop without windows, 5 rooms (called shops) full of goods, crowded customers, queue at the checkout. Prices are higher for some, lower for some. But there is definitely no such choice that the Old Market can give. A store for those who decide to buy something to remember Egypt without worrying about it. As for us, we immediately did not like it.

However, since there was still a lot of time, we decided to walk around the surrounding shops located not far away. By the way, Clooney's store is located on the outskirts of the shopping patch and to get to the center, you need to make some physical effort, which most buyers seem to be unable to do.
I was embarrassed only by one moment, we will get a free transfer if we are not stingy in Cluny. But after 15 minutes, having plunged into the trading atmosphere, we completely forgot about it.

We went around all the shops and on the way back we decided to go into the arch, on which was written "Shopping Center "Daria". Our friends also photographed the sign to show their friend Daria the fact that her name was perpetuated in the vastness of Egypt. Believe it or not, there, in this shopping center, consisting of several shops owned by two brothers Misha and Mina, we found what we were looking for - the spirit of the Old Market and a wide range of products that attract with their low prices.

We were driving to Cluny and didn't intend to buy anything, but at this store we did! I confess, there was a moment when I regretted that I had already bought something at the Old Market.
While shopping, we tasted coffee, tea, tried dates...All this time, Misha managed to give instructions to his salespeople and communicate with other store visitors.

And now, the most important thing! In the stores "Daria" you can pay in Ukrainian hryvnia at an acceptable rate!! ! For Ukrainians, this store is just a godsend. So, we already bought dates and mangoes for hryvnias.

But that's not all. Mina, Misha's brother, works as a tour guide and communicates easily, like his brother, in Russian and Ukrainian. So, if anyone needs a tour at a normal price, this is for him. And another surprise, it turns out that Clooney's store is not the only one that provides a free transfer, the Darya shopping center does it with ease. But he and his brother went even further. Mina can meet tourists at the airport and deliver them quickly to the hotel.
I think this is just a super offer, especially for those vacationers whose hotel, unlike our Melton, is located more than 10 minutes from the air terminal.

Let me summarize. We were satisfied with this store ("Daria") and can safely recommend it to others.

About the rest in general

In the same way, we were satisfied with our vacation, as were our friends and a couple from Dnepropetrovsk, who at the very beginning were going to change the hotel, but for some reason they suddenly changed their minds, and when they left, they smiled and promised everyone to return. I am convinced that we make our own rest, and other accompanying circumstances only test the strength of our desire to be satisfied! Do not compare only with Mallorca, island Greece, Turkey, this is Egypt. If you want the same, no question, pay for the rest for 1000 USD. e. and more per person and discuss the technical support of the hotel and the well-trainedness of the staff, but in another thread. ))) Single Wi-Fi theme!
However, I have one question: did you come to rest or work on the Internet or stick it? It's time to learn to relax with the whole body.
