I recently returned with my husband from a holiday in Sharm el-Sheikh at the Marriott Resort Beach hotel (first line). We are still in some kind of shock from a five-star hotel with a worldwide reputation. I will say in advance that we paid the same amount as we paid earlier for excellent 5 stars in Egypt. This was not a last minute or discount tour.

We are not the first time in Egypt and we can compare what a hotel should be like and what it should not. Let's start with the fact that the renovation was a long time ago - so in the 90s, the furniture - to put it mildly "tired", there is a fungus in the bathroom. Slippers and bathrobes were not provided. Soap brought on the 5th day of stay.

On the first day we had 2 bottles of water in the room - paid and free. When we drank the free one, we were told - we no longer bring, you can drink the paid Evian, either take it on the beach or dial it in the buffet. Seriously? For the first time we were not given ordinary water in the room. Well, that's...

Nutrition is also a separate conversation. Variety is zero. The menu did not change, it was very noticeable that the hotel saves on food.
The same meat (mostly chicken, some beef and one kind of fish), you can not even dream of seafood. Everything is very monotonous and a little, if something ended from the dishes, the second time they might not have been served. They say they didn’t have time - your problems. Constant problems with clean dishes, waiting for 10-15 minutes for clean glasses or plates. Some wildness...

The beach at the hotel also deserves special attention. The beach is small, there is enough space, but the sunbeds are old - wooden and rotten, with broken backs. Pontoon - one name. It is plastic, and mostly broken, it was dangerous to walk on it, you can fall on the corals in the water. Moreover, motor boats were parked near it and the staff drove away from the pontoon, they say, you can’t jump here. And the boats constantly smelled of gasoline and very strongly. It seems that people come to such a vacation clearly not to sniff gasoline.

The icing on the cake was a bar on the beach - both laughter and sin.
It's hard to call it a bar, it's a tent where you could take water, beer and Yuppie-type drinks. At the request to make a delicious non-alcoholic cocktail, we mixed 2 types of these wonderful drinks from bright chemistry with a sugary taste in one glass. There was also an institution on the beach, but there all drinks were paid.

And everything would be fine, nevertheless we come to the sea, and the sea is gorgeous there and the weather is beautiful. But in the end, we were finished off by the attitude of the staff and the presence of a large number of local people in the hotel.

The locals were arrogant. On the sunbeds occupied by us in the morning with our towels (my husband got up for this at 6 am every day), they calmly put their towels on top of ours and rested. They did not react to the indignation, they believed that everything was ok.

Locals are also the only ones who smoked in the common buffet during breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's in an enclosed area where there are a lot of kids at adjacent tables. The reaction of the hotel was also "pleased" - you can smoke here.
Seriously?!

But the hotel staff, in principle, behaved strangely. Calling to clear the table is unrealistic, to bring drinks is even more difficult. But they approached the tables with the locals on average 5-6 times for dinner or lunch. They immediately asked what they would like to drink and within a minute they had a fully served table. Some even brought plates of food. They approached us the only time to ask what we would drink and this was for 7 days of rest.

Do you think that we are so harmful and picky? No. We met a large company from Belarus, people are all adults and also not for the first time in Egypt. They were in shock. Initially, they lived on the second line. They told us that the repair and furniture there were from the Soviet Union. The door is made of wardrobe, you can knock it out with your elbow. Old TV, 2000 model. Breakfast is poor and also if you didn’t have time to go down, then you won’t eat. They took pictures of everything that was there and showed it to the reception.
They raised a scandal and asked - is it really 5 stars? So that they would not make any more noise, they were moved to the first line.

We also met another woman at dinner, who was extremely dissatisfied with the service and the hotel as a whole.

Summing up, I will write that, dear guys from Marriot Resort Beach, you have not been 5 stars for a long time and even 4 already with a stretch. Take care of the hotel, otherwise you will lose all your customers. In such a big competition it is not clear how you even live.

In fairness, it is worth noting the dignity of the hotel - this is an excellent location, literally 1 km along the promenade and you are on Naama Bay. A very warm and beautiful bay, a shallow entry into the sea and a lot of corals and beautiful fish. Cleaning in the rooms - they tried very hard, but this is more the merit of the cleaner himself than the hotel. Also a special thanks to the head of the hotel's security service, who allowed us to change clothes in his private office. And that's probably all.
Definitely we will not return to it, moreover, this hotel in Sharm el-Sheikh left an unpleasant aftertaste for the entire Marriott hotel chain.
We will certainly leave a separate review to our travel agent.
