We chose a budget option for a mom and three children. To be close to the sea, so that the sea is clean, the beach is not oversaturated - and that's all we got. Sunbeds/umbrellas were not rented. To be close to the sea, so that the sea is clean, the beach is not oversaturated - and that's all we got. Sunbeds/umbrellas were not rented. They brought a beach tent with them. The beach is public, rather littered (I recalled Crimea and Krasnodar) - half of the beach is not very garbage, and 10 meters from the shore everything is lying around - from lost things to construction debris. Cretans walking their dogs on the beach, sometimes with scoops and bags, is a common sight.
We did not expect special miracles from the three-ruble note. Therefore, there was no particular disappointment. Tour from the Greek tour operator Mouzenidis - I recommend it to everyone, the attitude towards you will be special. Early arrival and check-in at 9 am, late departure - there is no loss in days (by the way, on the day of departure we extended our stay in the room until the night for 20 euros - they handed it over to the owner of the hotel). At the visa center you are accepted without a queue, etc. Solid pluses.
The hotel itself, I repeat, is a standard three-ruble note. We had a room 124 Apartment 2 Brooms - two-room, in each room there are 2 beds, but in one they are separate, and in the other they are shifted together (in general, the most well-located two-room rooms - 123 - 126 - windows into the courtyard, the first floor in the shade , balconies). The room has a small kitchen. There are pots and utensils for two in the cupboards. Those who wish are given cooking surfaces. The room is very modestly furnished, the furniture is pretty worn, the mattresses are moderately old, the pillows are small, dense and uncomfortable, one per bed. The combined bathroom did not close in any way, the handle periodically jumped out, the plumbing is very cheap and battered (the seat on the toilet is dark yellow from time to time). From hygiene products, we were given a small bar of soap. one and forever)) Nothing, in the shop opposite the hotel we bought everything we needed. In general, shops and supermarkets are run by very nice and friendly people, they are not averse to chatting in English. In general, the room is not dirty, they wiped it every day, the linen was changed every three days, no one wiped the dust (itself, as soon as I moved in I wiped everything and forgot). From the room there is a feeling of some kind of neglect in general, some ownerlessness - it seems to be generally clean, but the air conditioner is rewound with tape, the locks are rusty, the dryer on the balcony falls out of the wall with screws. As if everything was done by the master Koekak or Maybe it will do. The territory of the hotel is well-groomed. Kostas (owner) runs around all day, spinning, and the master's hand is not visible in the rooms. There is a Russian-speaking guide Yana in the hotel around the clock - you can contact her with requests to fix something, but it will not bring results - it is better to immediately go to Kostas, he is always at the hotel, either busy with something, helping the staff, or chatting with the children - pleasant enough nimble, enterprising Greek). But no one with whom I talked, the heck was not installed in the toilet)). When we left, Yana spoke. What leaves Mouzenidis. They say they pay little. In fact, the income of hotel guides depends on the number of excursions sold, and excursions are very expensive, and selling a lot of them in three rubles is too tough for anyone. For example, a one-day excursion to Santorini with a flight by plane costs 160 euros - regardless of age. We went on one excursion to the cave of Zeus, it cost 180 euros for 1 adult, 1 teenager and 2 children. The bus will take you to the mountains to a height of almost 1000 meters, along a serpentine, very beautiful views of mountains, lakes, gorges, you will see the Lassithi mountain plateau - a reserve in which many crops are grown for sale. Moreover, as in all reserves, this is prohibited, but at the cost of a fine once every three years, all this economy is flourishing. If George is your guide, you will be very lucky. A wonderful intelligent person, with a good speech and a subtle sense of humor. After this excursion, I realized that I knew and fell in love with Crete.
Near the hotel there are several attractions within walking distance - I recommend downloading the MyCreeteGuide application - very useful thing, it works without the Internet as a navigator, by geolocation. Caves, ruins, a church in the rocks - you must go.
The food at the hotel is very modest, do not expect to be pampered with variety. But they won’t leave you hungry)) For breakfast, an omelette with the inclusion of vegetables left over from dinner and a lot of flour, a puff pastry pie with spinach, a ready-made cake, croutons, milk, cereal, fresh vegetables, cheap cheese with vegetable fat and pressed sausage, boxes of jam and butter and a jar of Nutella. And soft cottage cheese - they were saved. Everything) Terribly missed scrambled eggs and boiled eggs. For lunch there will always be fried / boiled potatoes, one type of boiled vegetables, pasta, meat (most often pork) - either in pieces / cutlets, or in pasta, twice in 12 days there was fish (macrorus, fillet baked in its own juice : ) ) Always - fresh vegetables and green salad and onion rings, two types of salad with mayonnaise and 1 type of fruit (or fruit jelly). For the first 5 days, soup was given for dinner, then there were more Russian-speakers - they moved it for lunch)) soup in broth with starch and pasta or with tomato paste. In general, there are several taverns near the hotel where you can enjoy the delights of Greek cuisine)).
The territory of the hotel is small, a small pool, a tiny playground. Everything is set very tightly.
They didn’t rent a car - local drivers drive sooooo dumbly, hardly noticing each other and pedestrians, they don’t suspect the existence of turn signals at all.
The hotel has one feature - they accept social groups of adults with developmental delays, 15-20 people plus accompanying social workers and volunteers. English and Greek groups came with us, one replaced the other. This is all good, but it brings a certain color to the rest, and it must be taken into account when choosing a holiday - not all Russian citizens and their children are ready for this.
The contingent of the hotel - Greeks, Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Moldovans. Romanians. Czechs.
We talked with neighbors along the coast, found out that not far from our hotel there is a very worthy three-ruble note Karteros 3 *, folks. Spoiled by fours and fives, he recommended it. There the owner is Greek, and his wife is Russian. Externally, the hotel is very nice, although it is located on two roads.
I wish you all successful travels, get maximum pleasure and not let annoying little things spoil your mood)

The girl in the office of Mouzenidis was anxious, quickly picked up a tour for us, since our trip was spontaneous, we did not have a big budget, so we were offered the inexpensive Minos Village hotel. The hotel is located just 5 km from the airport and 6 km from the island's capital city Heraklion in the small village of Karteross. We arrived on a morning flight, and even though we were allowed to check in after 2:00 pm, we were immediately given a room.
We had a standard double room. Spacious room with two beds, there are bedside tables on the sides, the room has air conditioning, a refrigerator and a plasma TV, the room is clean and comfortable. The bathroom is small, but everything works properly, there is a towel and a hair dryer.
The hotel area is small, but there is a pool for adults, quite deep (1.2-2m) and a pool for younger guests.
For children there is a playground with slides and swings. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the territory, and even in a five-star hotel, the Internet did not work as well as in this hotel.
The hotel operates on an all-inclusive basis, the food can be called modest, but really tasty, home-cooked. Breakfasts were standard, like everywhere else: yogurt, omelettes, vegetables, cheeses, etc. etc. For lunch and dinner, poultry, pork or lamb were cooked, the side dish was also a choice.
The beach here, of course, is gorgeous, there is a beach bar on the shore, for us, for guests of the Minos Village hotel, there was a discount on sunbeds, so we bought them there for 3 euros (2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella). The beach itself is sandy, but at the entrance of the sea the pebbles are large, so for me personally it was not very comfortable.
There are several taverns and shops not far from the hotel, you can walk there in the evening, there is a stop nearby where the city bus runs every 30 minutes, you can take it to the capital of the island. But I advise you to buy a bus ticket in the mini market opposite, where the ticket is cheaper than buying it on the bus.
In general, I am completely satisfied with my trip, I really liked this hotel, although it is small, it is very cozy, very good, cheerful, helpful people work here, for whom the opinion of every tourist is very important. I made a good conclusion for myself that you don’t need to spend a lot of money overpaying for a hotel when you can have a great time in a hotel with a lower star rating! Therefore, my opinion: I advise, believe me, you will like it!

Just imagine the road in 7 minutes! It's incredible! The hotel is really located a short drive from the main airport of Crete, which is very convenient. No long road and no fatigue. However, this does not mean that constantly landing planes somehow interfere with rest. While in the room, we did not hear the strong hum of the turbines. With the settlement we were helped by a friendly owner of the hotel, he is also a receptionist. By the way, you could pass the time in the lobby with the help of excellent wi-fi. The pool is next to the restaurant but we rarely used it. What about the meaning? The hotel is well located - 5 minutes walk to the sea. At the same time, the beach of Karteros (the settlement in which the hotel is located) is one of the coolest in Crete - sandy, the sea is very clean. You can rent an umbrella and sunbed for only 1.5 euros per day. Now a little about the area itself. Just a 3-minute walk there is a small supermarket, a two-minute bus stop. Accordingly, we examined almost the entire northern coast of Crete. The hotel, as it is located in Karteros, is located in the heart of the northern coast. This is a great chance to go on excursions. We visited the Palace of Knossos (the famous residence of King Minos, the abode of the Minoans a la the famous labyrinth of the Minotaur), and the Lassifian plateau with the famous cave of Zeus, and Heraklion, the capital of the island (only 15 minutes by bus) and even conquered the western part of Crete by visiting " Venetian" Rethymno. We did not bypass the eastern part of the island, visited Elounda and Agios Nikolaos, swam in the beautiful waters of Mirabello Bay. In general, you can continue the historical and noteworthy list forever, because from the hotel you can get to almost anywhere in Crete. Of course, I can't help but mention the food. Yes, this is not Turkey, where the buffet tables have no visible edges, BUT! ! The food is normal, by the way, a buffet. There are also meat dishes and traditional Cretan appetizers. Drinks can be purchased for a separate price, except for tea, water, coffee, milk, etc. (this is included). As for the room itself, I note that the safe is ONLY in the apartments. The bathroom was always clean, because daily cleaning was carried out. In general, summarizing all of the above, I want to say that the hotel is FULLY responsible for the combination of price and quality. And even though he has only 3 *, the rest in this hotel turned out to be 5k!

I will say right away that, perhaps, we initially collected more information about the hotel than about Crete as a whole, we prepared thoroughly - my first vacation, it is the most difficult. . .
Therefore, they were initially ready for everything, because they just don’t write anything. As a result, it turned out that all the studied treatises remained out of work. Already on the first day, we completely relaxed surrounded by the fragrant greenery of the hotel and in the company of friendly and open hotel staff and a representative of the tour operator. Friends, less prejudice - Crete will surprise you every day of your holiday!
About the most important thing, about the sea: friends, it is amazing! Only a few minutes walk to the sandy beach with sunbeds with soft bedding, in order to fully enjoy swimming in the waters of the hospitable and caressing Aegean Sea.
In view of the fact that almost all the nuances have already been noted in the other reviews (we won’t argue who is right and who is wrong, because everyone has their own opinion), I will note what struck me personally especially: the family atmosphere. And everything that happened, every nuance, whether it was a meeting, morning breakfast, evening conversations... everything was exclusively at home.

Before departure, we read the reviews and understood where we were going, so we focused on the advantages of the hotel, namely:
- good location. The hotel is located near the capital Heraklion, so we often went there for a walk, and there is something to see. The largest city in Crete with beautiful architecture and old churches, a large number of shops where you can shop for any budget and cozy quiet streets.
You can get directly from the hotel, the stop is 50m. The bus fare is 1.5 or 2 euros, depending on the bus route.
- The advantage of the hotel is also the proximity to the sea, it was only 5 minutes to walk to the beach. The beach is not equipped, but we took a bed with us and bought fruit from local merchants along the way.
The hotel itself looks very simple, the rooms correspond to the pictures and there was a smell of dampness upon arrival, but after our appeal to the reception, the room was aired and cleaned again)
The territory of the hotel is not big at all, there is a restaurant and a bar.
The food is very simple, I would say even meager. There was no fruit for breakfast. But for dinner every other day the Greek fried meat on the grill.
In general, the hotel barely reaches its 3 * level, but apparently takes its location. Suitable only for non-pretentious people who came to see this beautiful island, and not sit in a hotel.

In Karteros, where we rested, there is a good sandy beach. Although there are city ones, but we didn’t really like them. The village itself is small, but you can get to the city of Heraklion. Our hotel guide said that there are several ways to get there. We decided, after all, a taxi. That way you won't get lost quickly.
During the rest, it happened that my child fell ill and then our tour operator pleased, the hotel guide did not stand aside (she helped with the translation when the doctor arrived). When the doctor was called, Russian-speaking telephone operators helped us.
We also took a few excursions. We had a great time, the route was very well built! Be sure to visit Spinalonga and the Palace of Knossos!
Our guides spoke excellent Russian (although some of them are local Greek women), they know a lot of information! We did not find as much information in any guidebook as we learned on excursions. Like this!
Also wanted to thank the hotel staff, especially Kostas and Katerina, for making the hotel so warm and welcoming.

The hotel is located in the village of Karteros, It is a quiet and peaceful place not far from Heraklion. There is no animation or evening entertainment. The bus to Heraklion runs about once an hour, there is no schedule.
As for the hotel, the hotel is very good for a 3 star category. This is a family hotel, in the evenings you can see the owner for a cup of coffee and chat with him.
As for food, the choice is not so huge, but you will not stay hungry.
The hotel has a small pool and sun loungers, so sometimes I rested there, although it was also very close to the sea 150 meters, there are 3 beaches - municipal, wild and belonging to another hotel, at least where you can come and lie down.
In general, I really enjoyed my vacation. Rested from the bustle of the city, but not bored. Through the company Mouzenidis Travel purchased 2 excursions Cretan Evening and Knossos-Heraklion-Winery, they were very satisfied with the service, everything was precisely organized, everywhere they met and accompanied the company's employees.
PS : Be sure to visit a couple of excursions to get an idea of the island, to see its beauty and nature! Excursions can be bought from your hotel guide, he is in the hotel.

On the Internet they write "a spacious restaurant with an outdoor terrace and a wonderful view of the sea, will treat guests to Greek and international cuisine. " But that's not the case at all. There was no view of the sea, the view was on the road and mountains. But the cuisine was really both Greek and international (on the last day of our stay, we were even treated to a chickenburger and french fries =) ). The Greek cuisine itself is just amazing. It was very tasty, you will lick your fingers. The "restaurant", as the Internet calls it, was not alone. There were three of them: on the veranda, in the hall and by the pool. Food is served wherever you want.
The owner of the hotel welcomed us very well. A benevolent man named Minos. He named the hotel after himself - Minos Bay. In the morning he treated us to a hot cup of Greek coffee. In the evening he treated me to Greek vodka =). Vodka, by the way, was quite tasty. There is no comparison with our Russian vodka ; ). And at the end, when we left the hotel, he gave us a bottle of this same vodka and a bottle of Greek red wine.
Our room was cleaned every day, but linen and towels were changed every other day. The room was clean and good, but there was one caveat: the water in the shower did not go away enough. The aunt who cleaned our room turned out to be respectable (although it seemed to us that all the Greeks there were decent people) - she didn’t even take the money that we left her from the table, but simply wiped the table with a cloth, without even touching anything. There is no comparison with Egypt, where they can take everything that comes into their eyes.
The room was comfortable. Second floor, sea view. You could even see the planes coming and going, because the village where we lived was 6 km away. from the city of Heraklion (the largest city of Crete), and therefore from the airport. At first, of course, it was not familiar, but then they didn’t even notice the noise of the plane, they got used to it. And then I liked it. . . Exotic =).
In terms of food, everything was in order. As it turned out, there were no Russians in the hotel except for us. There were Greeks and a family from Norway. It's so unusual, especially when you don't know the language at all, even English =). It was difficult to communicate, but then we got used to it... Gestures, facial expressions saved =). There was no buffet in the evening, because there were only us on the HB (breakfast-dinner) meal, and for the two of us it was useless to arrange a buffet (as we understood it) and therefore they cooked only for us personally. The food was not repeated: every day there was a new dish. Greek cuisine, I repeat, I really liked it. Only here you have to pay for the drink.
The owner and hotel staff taught us a few Greek words (good morning, thank you, etc. ), and we taught them Russian. They study well, but they say that it is difficult. But this is understandable, because the Russian language is the most difficult language.
The sea was nearby, 200 meters from the hotel. The beach is urban, large (km. 4), sandy, but there were stones and a few pebbles on the sand when entering the sea. In the village of Karteros there were 2-3 supermarkets, many cafes and restaurants. It was a long walk to Heraklion itself. You could rent a scooter (15 euros / day) and ride. Heraklion is a big city, you can see a lot of things. But you just need to be more careful on the roads: the roads are small, but they drive at great speed, especially in the evening.
In a word - super! All liked it. We wish you a pleasant holiday on the island of Crete. And one more reminder: the east side is not as picturesque as the west, but not bad either. Whatever you choose, you'll like it, I think everything =)
