We rested in Georgioupolis, Fereniki hotel, in May 2013. The building is right next to the sea, a beautiful view of the sea and the mountains. Triple studio, large double bed and single bed, air conditioning (5 per day), safe (10 per week), TV, refrigerator, kitchenette with extractor hood. Shower behind a curtain, quite normal. There is no hair dryer in the room. Refurbished rooms have triple glazing. Although the Tropicana restaurant is located nearby, and motorcyclists often drive along the embankment in the evening, with the windows and doors closed, the noise practically did not interfere with sleep. Mosquitoes interfered with sleep, since there are no mosquito nets on the double-glazed windows, and sometimes it is necessary to ventilate.
The new building of the canteen-restaurant is large, with three terraces, there was enough space for everyone, it is located next to the reception.
The food is quite varied, for dinner there are 2-3 types of meat, poultry, fish, there were kebabs and seafood in sauce, various yogurts, canned fruits, delicious baklava. Our vacationers scooped up mountains of food that they could not eat and left untouched portions on the tables, which the Greeks had to throw away. The Greeks, seeing such an attitude towards their work, stopped trying hard, reduced the assortment, and even stopped peeling oranges. Just cut into pieces. But they began to check the keys to the room at the entrance. Apparently, there were also vacationers who came here to eat for free without any payment...

The town of Georgioupolis is cozy, beautiful promenade, many taverns, shops are open until 23-00, everything is there, prices are lower than in Chania and Rethymnon. Very inexpensive and good leather and jewelry, you can bargain.
There is a tour desk in the town square. From Georgioupolis it is very convenient to take an excursion to the Samaria Gorge, because it is the closest to return. From the embankment of Georgioupolis, a sightseeing train goes to Lake Kournas and other excursions.
Not far from the hotel there is a bus stop for Chania and Rethymno, tickets are sold at the bus stop or directly on the bus. A ticket to Chania is about 4 euros, to Rethymno 3 euros. If you take it back and forth at once, it will be a little cheaper. The return ticket is valid at any time on the same day. Bus timetables can be obtained from the hotel reception. When communicating at the reception, on the bus, in shops, one must take into account that all Greeks speak English well, and very few speak or understand Russian.
Chania has a beautiful promenade built in the Venetian style, Rethymnon has a well-preserved Fortezza fortress, a fairly large old town with many cafes and shops.
A strip of wide sandy stretches stretches from Georgioupolis almost to Rethymno itself. All beaches are free, spacious, the sea is shallow and very clean, entry into the water is good. If you take a drink in the coastal bar (2.5 - 3 euros), then a sunbed and an umbrella are provided free of charge for the day.
To summarize: beautiful nature, sun, clear sea, cozy resort town and quite a good hotel, helpful staff, good food. What else do you need for a holiday?
