The experience of the Bella Casita in Platanias is quite good.
From the pros:
-well located if you are going to travel around the island;
-good breakfasts, everything is fresh (buffet + hot breakfast to order. Usually it is an omelette, potatoes with sausage, pancakes, stewed vegetables). Freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh yogurt from the farm are in the assortment.
- friendly attitude of the staff, cleaning of the rooms is normal;
- there is Russian-speaking staff - Maria, who will patiently explain everything, tell you (for example: where and what to buy, in which restaurant they serve really fresh fish, how to get somewhere, etc. );
- the territory is quiet (the hotel is located not on the highway and on the side of it), green, the sound of the surf is heard in the rooms;

-the room has a kitchenette (two burners, a sink, a refrigerator, shelves, simple dishes and cutlery, a corkscrew, knives, forks). This is especially convenient if you came from the beach and made yourself a cup of coffee after a shower, or if you are tired after the tour and you are not drawn to the tavern, you just want to sit with a book on the balcony. And very close to a supermarket where you can buy everything you need;
There is a powerful hair dryer in the room, so you do not need to drag your own on a trip. The TV is also normal, there are a lot of programs, incl. Russian channels. Is there a safe in the room;
- private beach, clean sea, swimming pool.
About the sea separately:
the beach is loose sand, but at the edge of the surf, quite small stones are washed up. Such beaches are not uncommon in Crete.
And not everyone likes to walk on stones. But if you buy special slippers (5 EUR), then this is not a problem. Shallow about five to seven meters (everywhere in different ways) from the shore, then a rather sharp cliff. If you can swim, then this is not a problem, but if you want your little child to splash in the sea, and you will lie and watch him, then you most likely will not succeed. But for children there is a paddling pool next to the sea. It's definitely safe there.
Minuses:
- really not a very good bathroom in the rooms, the shower leaves much to be desired. But in general, it's clean, they clean the bathroom every day;
General summary: 3 * hotel with a plus, almost 4 *. I want to return to the hotel, the atmosphere there is somehow homely, warm. Yes, this hotel does not have pomp, exquisite luxury, but there are very good conditions for recreation and travel. All rooms have balconies where it is convenient to drink tea and dry swimwear.
Additional Tips:

1. There are two hotels on the territory: Bella Casita and Motakis village Trefon. The manager of the Bella Casita Hotel - Steve explains that the name was stolen from them (the hotel was previously called Motakis Village) and they had to change it. In general, the story is dark, either the hotel was really divided in two, or something else happened. The hotel Motakis Village Trefon, standing nearby, looks good, but for some reason there are few guests there. Rumor has it that they went bankrupt and the service to the guests is minimal. I had a scandal with Russian tourists, whom the tour operator settled in this hotel, but the tourists later realized that they had been deceived and demanded to be relocated to Bella Casita. So be vigilant.
2. There are mosquitoes on Crete. Buy a fumigator (5 EURO) in the nearest supermarket or bring your own.
3. Do not rush to buy excursions from a tour operator. Walk down the street of the village, find the tourist offices. They offer excursions, incl. in Russian. And these excursions are no worse than those of a tour operator, but cheaper by 40 percent. In general, ask more questions about this, at the reception they will tell you how to find agencies.
4. At the reception, you can additionally ask for a beach towel (so as not to drag your own).
5. It is not necessary to leave a tip for cleaning the room, this is everyone's business. I left (1-2 EUR), but not every day. In Greece, it is generally accepted to leave a tip (about 7-10 percent of the bill).
6. Around the pool (and it is located 100 meters from the sea) sun loungers are free of charge. On the beach, a sunbed will cost you 3 EURO. When it's stormy, it makes no sense to lie near the sea at all, but on the lawn next to the pool it's very good.
7. If you go to Rethymno, it is better to buy bus tickets in advance in the supermarket (1.2 EURO per person). The fact is that not all buses have cash desks and some drivers without tickets refuse to take passengers. Check the bus schedule at the reception. The interval of movement is 30-45 minutes.
Signal to the driver that you want to get off the bus in advance. Not 2 minutes before the exit, but at least 5 minutes and several times. I came across drivers who skipped my stop and said that I pressed the button too late, although this was not so.
