With impressions of another type in Sri Lanka, brought by coconut and campari, I am writing a review about my vacation in December 2011 at the KANI LANKA 4 * hotel (Kalutara, Sri Lanka). The hotel is just super, the food is excellent, everything is updated in the hotel, the pool is clean, the sunbeds are wooden, the territory is very clean, no one asks for a tip, I don’t know about theft, because the documents were kept in a safe in the room, they carried money with them (having read reviews about theft). Of the contingent of vacationers, 90% are Germans and British, silence, only the sound of the ocean, the cries of chipmunks and crows. There is no animation as such, only volleyball in the pool and water polo, well, in the evening some kind of show for older Germans in the style of someone over 60.
Once a week they brought the elephant Monica, very cheerful, washed and musical, the ride costs 1000 rupees, photo 500 rupees. It was very interesting to feed her with crackers (pechivo Maria).
Separately, about what is outside the hotel: An excellent local guide on a tuk-tuk, his name is Sanbat (his phone number is 07.457-02-72), we highly recommend him, he understands English and a little Russian, he takes you where you say, and not to expensive shops, fruits helps to buy, at a price like for a local: pineapple + papayo + 10 shaggy coconuts = 600 rupees (rate 1 $ = 112 rupees), fruits are much cheaper than for tourists, we went with him to the waterfall 10 km. there and 10 back from the hotel - the price is 1000 rupees for the round trip, other tuk-tukers demanded 2000 rupees, we liked it so much at the waterfall that we went there 3 times, well, of course, we stopped for fruit along the way. Then we went with him to Bentottu to the Temple of the Big Buddha, a river safari, a turtle farm, a spice garden, as a result, for three of them, taking into account the transfer by Sanbat tuk-tuk, it cost 5.500 rupees ($ 50), it would cost 100 dollars from local guides bucks. Separately, about Sanbat - a very careful driver and a brand new tuk-tuk (red), he drove us everywhere and drove and showed everything. If the weather was cloudy, they called Sanbat by phone to the hotel and went for a ride. The nature is just amazing, the food is not very spicy, the atmosphere is friendly, and so on.

We only had breakfast included in the hotel, we dined at the Red Lobster restaurant (200 meters from the hotel), they write a lot about it on the internet, mostly Germans and British, it’s very tasty and not expensive, one dish for three was enough (I’m attaching a photo of the menu ), beer - 200 rupees, fresh - 200 rupees (beer glass), lunch for trochs is about 2500 rupees with drinks, and there is no extra charge + 10% type for service.
More separately about the local population, who hang on the fence of the hotel beach and try to sell something at three prices, they are not very intrusive, but the prices are three times more expensive than behind the hotel, for everything.
