The building of the National Opera and Ballet Theater was designed in 1921 and built in 1947-1953, although the art of opera in Sofia originated much earlier - in 1908 with the staging of several performances based on operas by Verdi and Gounod. Inside, the Sofia Theater is quite spacious and large - there are several halls and stages. The basis of the repertoire of the Opera and Ballet Theater is made up of classical works by Russian and Italian composers: very often you can watch performances of Russian ballet and listen to Italian opera here.
