The Neo-Gothic castle is located in northern Germany, in the Hannover region. It was built in the middle of the 19th century and served as a residence for the monarchs of Hanover. It is noteworthy that Marienburg Castle was a gift to Queen Mary on the occasion of her birthday from her husband, the last king of Hanover, George V. After the expulsion of the Hanoverian royal family, the castle was empty for eighty years, until the former owners returned here in 1945. In 2018, it became known that Crown Prince Ernst August Jr. sold the castle to the German government for a nominal sum in order to keep it for the public, because the maintenance of the architectural complex was very expensive. In addition, the buildings were in need of renovation. Currently, Marienburg Castle is open to tourists.

Residence of the Crown Princes of Hanover

Do you know the history of one of the German castles - Marienburg Castle and why no one has lived in the castle for 80 years? If you drive from the south towards Hannover, then from a distance you can see him standing on a mountain densely overgrown with forests. Marienburg was built between 1858 and 1867. King George V of Hanover gave his wife Marie the castle as a summer residence for her 39th birthday. More precisely, initially only the territory was a gift. Queen Mary herself supervised the construction.→
