A trip to Montserrat should be a must, and for the whole day! The first time it is better to go with a guided tour, and if you want to re-visit, you can from Barcelona on your own. Mount Montserrat is located 1320 meters above sea level. This is a mountain with a unique energy. Monks appeared on the mountain in the 11th century. In 1025, the first stone was laid in the foundation of the monastery by abbot Oliba of Ripolsky. The Benedictine monastery will celebrate its millennium in 2025, it is located 720 meters above sea level.

The name Montserrat comes from the Catalan words mont (mountain) and serrat (cut, sawn). According to one of the legends, bored angels cut the mountain with their golden saws. How to get from Barcelona? There are two options: 1. Electric train + cremalera (Cremallera de Montserrat), rack railway. A combined ticket can be bought from a vending machine at Barcelona's Plaza Espanya station. Price 10.50 euros (2014). On the platform we are looking for the line R5 Barcelona - Manresa. We go to the Monistrol de Montserrat station.
