Mirabeau Boulevard, which is bordered by an alley of huge plane trees, was founded in 1649 on the site of a former fortress wall. The city was actively growing and expanding, which meant that the inhabitants of Aix needed a promenade. Fountains are considered the main attractions of Mirabeau. Surprisingly, this beauty in the city was multiplied by a prosaic reason - the plague and the lack of clean water associated with it, and not at all a craving for beauty.
