Arch of Augustus

Gate of Augustus in Nimes, La porte d'Auguste
France, Nimes
The Arch of Augustus is located on Rue Nacional next to the Church of Saint Bodile. It was built in 15 BC and served as the main city gate.

Now near the gate there is a bronze statue of Augustus - a gift to Nim from Mussolini's Italy.

On the Rue nationale are the Gates of Augustus or the Arlesian Gates. Built in the 1st century BC. e. , they were part of the fortress wall that surrounded Him and served as one of the main entrances to the ancient city. From here began the journey to Rome. Already in the modern era, a bronze copy of the famous statue of Emperor Augustus was installed behind the gate (a gift from Italy to Nim).
