On Place Gabriel Peri there is a monument dedicated to Joan of Arc. This sculpture, by Maxime Real del Sarte, was created during World War II, when the French reanimated many of their folk heroes to keep up the national spirit. According to legend, at the feet of the statue is the earth from the place where Jeanne was burned.→
