Church Saint-Paterne

Église saint-poaterne d'orléans
France, Orleans
The Church of the Saint-Patern in Orleans, an elegant example of neo-Gothic architecture, dated to the end of the 19th century, has a rich history that goes in depth of centuries. The modern structure rises in the place where an important religious cell was once located-Priorat Saint-Poire.
The first references to the priority of Saint-Poire dates back to the VI century. According to legend, it was founded by St. Patern himself, Bishop of Orleans. Throughout the Middle Ages, Priorat played a significant role in the religious and cultural life of the city. His buildings were repeatedly rebuilt and expanded, reflecting different architectural styles of the era.
However, over time, Priorat’s buildings fell into decay. In the 19th century, it was decided to build a new, more magnificent church, which meets the increasing needs of the arrival. The construction of the modern Church of Saint-Patern began in 1876 under the leadership of the architect of the Dehero Field and ended in 1894.
Despite the fact that little from the previous priority of Saint-Poire has been preserved, the spirit of this historical place is felt today. The snow -white facade and lancet windows of the new church, decorated with elegant stained -glass windows, create the impression of lightness and light, contrasting with the mighty history of its foundation.
The internal space of the Church is striking in the harmony of proportions and the wealth of details. Particular attention is attracted by modern stained -glass windows, filling it with soft color light, and a majestic godmother. Thanks to its magnificent acoustics, the Church often becomes the venue for concerts.
Located in the heart of Orleans, on Bannier Street, the Church of Saint-Patern is not only the current temple, but also an important witness to the centuries-old history of the city, uniting the heritage of the past and the greatness of modern architecture. Her visit will become an unforgettable part of acquaintance with Orleans.

The church was previously called Saint-Pooire. Before the revolution, it was a monastery at the abbey of Saint-Per-de-Shartre, first mentioned in the document of 1115. The Church of St. Patern was rebuilt on the foundation of the old building in the 19th century on the model of churches of the 13th century, and, like most buildings copied from an earlier period, is often criticized, is considered massive and cold. But this is not so, inside there are some rare elements that the visitor is useful to detect: a mosaic depicting the cross of St.
