The Basilica of Saint-Denis was built with the blessing of Genevieve of Paris over the tomb of Saint Dionysius in 475. Later, a Benedictine monastery was founded here, and in 630 the basilica was rebuilt and became the main temple of the monastery. The current architectural appearance of the cathedral is the merit of Abbot Suger, adviser to the French kings Louis VI and Louis VII.
Queens of France were crowned in Saint-Denis, including Anna Yaroslavna, daughter of the Kiev prince Yaroslav the Wise, married to King Henry I. Almost all French kings, as well as other royal and noble persons, were buried here. Saint-Denis was looted and closed during the French Revolution, the remains of the buried were thrown into the moat. But in 1869 the abbey was restored by the famous architect Viollet-le-Duc.

Burial place of French kings
This is a very unusual place. The view inside and outside is very different. Outwardly, it seems that this is an ordinary Gothic church, but inside there are very conflicting feelings. The names of kings and their families, which many people know from childhood from books, films or history books, are suddenly written on tombstones nearby, and standing next to their stone statues is not an everyday emotion. A touch to history, to life and death...for a long time you remain impressed by what you see.→

Saint Denis
Everyone said it was too far. Long hesitated to visit. Everything turned out to be very simple. At the Shamr metro station, Elise Clemenceau got on the 13 metro line and drove for 15-20 minutes without transfers. We got out right in front of the Basilica. We carefully choose the final one, because the branch has two final ones in this direction. Choose Saint Denis University. Everything around the Basilica is calm and beautiful. We were afraid that the area is unfavorable. Well, we did not wander at night.→
