Carnavalet Museum

Musee Carnavalet
France, Paris
City Museum of the History of Paris. It is located in two neighboring buildings - the mansions of Carnavalet and Le Peletier-de-Saint-Fargeau. The museum is located in the 3rd district of the French capital, in the Marais quarter.
The Carnavalet mansion was built between 1548 and 1560. In 1578, the house was purchased by a wealthy widow from Brittany named Françoise de Kernevenoy (French Françoise de Kernevenoy), and the house got its name from the somewhat distorted surname of this family.
Many famous and noble people lived in the Carnavalet mansion, but it gained the greatest fame at the end of the 17th century, when the Marquise de Sevigne lived here in 1677-1696. In the 19th century, the School of Road and Bridge Construction was located in the Carnival, and in 1866 the building was acquired by the city government of Paris to house a historical library and museum.
In 1965-1966, episodes of the famous American film How to Steal a Million were filmed in it with popular actors Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole.
In 1989, the neighboring mansion Le Pelletier de Saint-Fargeau, which was built at the end of the 17th century, was included in the museum.
Since 2000, the Carnavalet Museum has run the archaeological museum of Notre Dame Cathedral. Since 2002, the Paris catacombs have also belonged to the museum.

The Carnavalet Museum tells about the history and life of Paris, and is also one of the main museums in the French capital. This is a space entirely dedicated to preserving the history of the French capital from its origins to the present day. The museum is located in the heart of the Marais in the 3rd arrondissement. It presents a unique collection of exhibits: archaeological sites, exhibits from the French Revolution, various models, monuments, paintings, sculptures and other works of art, as well as posters for the Folies Bergè re and Black Cat cabaret, photographs of the first Lanvin boutique, cradles, secretaires and portraits of mistresses of French monarchs and much more.
