Monument to Beaumarchais

The monument to Beaumarchais is located in a small square at the intersection of Saint-Antoine and Tournelle streets, not far from Place de la Bastille. Pierre-Augustin Caron da Beaumarchais was a French playwright of the 2nd half of the 18th century, author of the famous plays The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro. A talented man, Beaumarchais was a successful publicist, diplomat, and businessman. The monument by the sculptor Klossad was unveiled in May 1897 on the site where the writer's house used to be. The monument is a bronze male statue, with his head bowed in thought and arms folded on his chest, mounted on a marble figured pedestal, with the name and dates of Beaumarchais's life engraved.

Not for tourists
I absolutely agree that this is an outstanding personality, but there is nothing interesting in the monument itself. Is it only for fans of sculptures or for those who are especially interested in the fate and history of this person. There are many such monuments in any city, I do not rate this as a landmark.→

Composer and diplomat!
Pierre-Augustin Caron da Beaumarchais (1732-1799) is best known as the author of The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro. Much less known are his technical work and very significant deeds in the field of diplomacy. It was he, a man of liberal views, thanks to his enormous popularity, being a member of the royal family, especially the queen, who was an admirer of the arts, who achieved recognition by France of the independence of a new, very small at that time (only 13 states), but even then an ambitious state - the North American United States.→
