Place Hotel de Ville is the oldest square in Paris, better known to the whole world as Place Greve, the famous place of executions. Here, in 1240, 20 Talmud carts were publicly burned, which were taken from the Jews. Here, many criminals were burned at the stake, hung and quartered, and criminals-aristocrats were simply cut off their heads. Here, in 1792, the guillotine was first used. In order to get rid of such a sad reputation, in 1803 the square was renamed Hotel de Ville square, and today nothing reminds of its bloody past. The square is one of the centers of city life; numerous exhibitions, fairs and other events are held here.

Constantly, something is happening.
I don't have much luck with this area. There is always something happening on it. No, no execution, of course. This is Greve Square! . Either an exhibition tennis match, in Paris, Roland-Garros, or the cup of the upcoming World Cup is being demonstrated. There are always crowds of people. Fortunately, if you look up, you can appreciate the beauty of the architecture of this, one of the main squares of Paris. Be sure to visit there, stand at the carousel and see what is happening today on the Hotel de Ville square.→

paris town hall
The square on which the Hotel de Ville stands has been the site of public executions for many centuries (the famous Place de Grè ve). The old town hall building (14th century) burned down during the era of the Commune. The new one was built at the end of the 19th century in the same Renaissance style. It now houses the City Council. The building is very beautiful, must see→
