Gelati Monastery

Gelati Monastery of the Mother of God, Gelati Monastery

The Gelati Monastery is located on a hill near the city of Kutaisi. It was founded by King David IV the Builder in 1106, where he was buried. The monastery consists of three churches, a three-tiered bell tower and an academy building. In 1994 Gelati Monastery was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Wow, beautiful place!
The place is beautiful not only for its stunning nature, but also for its historical and spiritual value. David the Builder is buried in this place in the photo, a person fanned by many legends. The inscription on the tombstone says that as a sign of respect it is necessary to step on the chest of David the Builder. Part of the reconstruction complex, but access is open and absolutely free. A special atmosphere of spirituality.
Gelati Monastery is located just two kilometers from Kutaisi. It stands on a hill in a very picturesque area with a beautiful view of the mountains. The monastery was founded by King David. In the future, it was attacked and repeatedly destroyed, but at one time it was a cultural center, which even had its own academy. I liked the monastery very much. Unusual frescoes, mosaics inside, which are considered among the best in Georgia, several churches, each of which feels the amazing energy of this place.→
