The citadel is located on top of the Gellert mountain, which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the whole of Budapest. The citadel was built after the Hungarian uprising of 1848–1849 by the ruling Habsburg dynasty. The building was the main strategic object for shelling Buda and Pest in the event of a future uprising. During World War II, the citadel was used by the Germans as an ammunition depot, hospital and barracks. Today, the building houses a wax museum. The Budapest Citadel is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Excellent panorama of the city.
Once upon a time, German warehouses, hospitals and barracks were located in the Citadel. To date, the Citadel has been reconstructed and houses a wax museum and an exhibition, which presents many archival documents and photographs. But what attracts to Mount Gellert (namely, the Citadel is located here) is not at all a historical value, but a beautiful cityscape day and night. Sunset photos are excellent, and the night panorama is simply magnificent.→

Beautiful view from the top of the mountain, that's all.
In the Budapest Citadel there is a memorial dedicated to the Second World War. During World War II, the headquarters of the German air defense was located in the Citadel. From here, the Germans shelled Pest for several days in a row, defending themselves from the advancing Soviet troops. You can estimate the scale of the destruction of Pest from the photographs hung right there. Some buildings could not be restored in their original form, for example, the bridge of Erzhebeta. Since the Citadel is located on the highest point in Budapest, beautiful views open from here that attract tourists much more than the fortification itself.→
