The Cathedral of St. Apostle Andrew the First-Called is a temple complex that includes a medieval Roman Catholic Cathedral, the Basilica of the Crucifixion, the Paradise courtyard, a bell tower, a museum and a crypt with the relics of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called. A wide staircase of 62 steps leads to the main entrance, where imposing bronze gates inlaid with silver have been installed since the 9th century. The architecture of the buildings combines Byzantine, Gothic, Arab-Norman and Baroque styles. The façade is lavishly decorated with colorful mosaics and geometric patterns. The walls and ceilings are well preserved fragments of frescoes of the XVI century from the life of the saints. In the crypt there is a sculpture of St. Andrew the First-Called, and under it there is an urn with his relics.

Cathedral in Amalfi: the main attraction of the coast

Incredibly beautiful Cathedral of Byzantine architecture, richly decorated with mosaics and frescoes, is located in the center of the city of Amalfi. A number of steps lead to the entrance to the Cathedral, which makes it seem even more majestic! The facade is very colorful. The bell tower of the cathedral strikes with an unusual style. One of the most famous Christian shrines rests in the Cathedral: the relics of St. Andrew the First-Called, brought by the Crusaders during the period of the Amalfi Republic.→
