Apennine colossus

Italy, Florence
The giant sculpture of the 16th century is located in the northern part of Florence, in the park of Villa Demidoff. Its author was the famous Florentine sculptor Jambologna. In the old days, the Apennine colossus was part of an architectural ensemble, most of which were bronze figures. Over time, they were all lost. Thus, the stone hero, who received his name in honor of the Apennine mountains, remained in splendid isolation. Several rooms are hidden inside the ten-meter statue.

The giant sculpture "Colossus" of the 16th century in Florence at the Villa Demidoff (Medici Paggeria from Pratolino) is located on the hills. This epic colossus, half man, half mountain, was erected in the late 1500s by the famous Italian sculptor Giambologna as a symbol of the Italian mountains, the Apennines. The rugged, mountainous statue holds a wonderful secret - its interior hides several rooms with various functions that bring this colossus to life. The monster held by his left hand spewed water from an underground stream, and it is also rumored that the space in his head was made for a fireplace and if lit, smoke would come out of his nostrils.
