Maggio street

Via Maggio
Italy, Florence
Via Maggio is the main street on the south side of the Arno River. The street connects Piazza San Felice and the Santa Trinita Bridge. The first houses here were built around 1260 by the Velluti family, by the middle of the 14th century other prominent families joined them. Along Maggio Street there are magnificent Renaissance palaces, but the main attraction of the street is the Bianchi Capello Palace, which was built by Prince Francesco I of Medici for his beloved.

If you are near Palazzo Pitti, you can take a walk along via Maggio. It has preserved many buildings of the sixteenth century. Pay attention to the Palazzo Bianchi Cappello (mistress, and then the second wife of Francesco 1) reconstructed for her by Buontalenti.
