Church of Santa Maria dell'Isola

The church is located on top of a rocky cliff in the resort town of Tropea (Calabria region), famous for its beaches. Santa Maria dell'Isola is the main tourist attraction not only in Tropea, but throughout Calabria. You can climb here by winding stairs carved into the rock, which in itself is an adventure. The first mention of the church dates back to the 4th century AD. e. Since then, it has been destroyed more than once (in particular, as a result of earthquakes, the last of which occurred in 1905) and rebuilt until it acquired its current Renaissance look.

Pearl of Calabria
The city's business card is located on a rock surrounded on three sides by the sea. It has its history dating back to 370. After the destruction due to earthquakes and fires, the church was repeatedly reconstructed. It has long since lost its original appearance, but this does not diminish its beauty.→
