Galle Fort is located in the bay of the same name, south of Colombo and was built in 1663. The fortress was built by the Dutch who came here, the structure is made of dark granite and for almost two centuries it was the main port of Sri Lanka. Inside the fortification there is a whole city block, where a variety of hotels, shops, cafes and restaurants, banks, as well as a city market are located. In addition to the ancient walls inside the fortress, several other attractions are of particular interest - the Dutch Church, Galle lighthouse and the mosque.

Great place to take a walk

Since Sri Lanka is a former colony of the British Empire, there are still traces of that old architecture, and Galle Fort is a confirmation of this. Admission is free, your only task is to get there (we got on the local blue bus). Narrow streets, colored houses, a lot of European-style cafes (inexpensive) and shops with art objects (paintings, women's clothing, bags, souvenirs, figurines, etc. ). Have a nice time.→

Story

The territory of the Fort itself in Galle is large, for the first time we were there in 2013 and bypassed only the right side of the fort, and already in 2015 we walked along the left side of the fort. Not bad for a change, we went by regular bus for the first and second time, the final stop is the bus station just in the vicinity of the fort . .→
