Fort Galle Lighthouse

The lighthouse of Fort Galle is located in the southern part of the cape, in the Utrecht bastion on the Indian Ocean. This is the oldest lighthouse in Sri Lanka, the original building was erected by the British in 1848 and had a height of 24.5 meters. However, it was destroyed by fire in 1934. The current lighthouse was built in 1939, it is a round white tower 26.5 meters high, 47 meters in diameter, flashing every 15 seconds.

romantic place
When visiting Galle Fort, be sure to visit the lighthouse. At the top let the lighthouse attendants for 100-300 rupees (+ - as agreed). The lighthouse is active. Soldiers sit at their workplaces. Fort Galle Lighthouse. World Heritage List
One of the most interesting sights of Sri Lanka. The fort is deservedly on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was built back in 1663 by the Dutch and did it so well that in 2004 it saved the inhabitants of the city from the tsunami. If not for the fort, the consequences would have been even more tragic. It is very interesting to climb the lighthouse itself - the panorama is simply mesmerizing. Issue price $ 10-20 for 2. We bargained for $5. The beautiful white building in the lighthouse photo is a 1684 hotel.→
