The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco combines the museum itself and the Oceanographic Institute. It owes its existence and in general a great contribution to the study of marine flora and fauna to Prince Albert I of Monaco. The museum was founded in the century before last - in 1899, and moved to the current building on a rock in 1910. specialized classrooms and a library containing many scientific reports and papers on oceanography. The museum is also famous for the fact that for a long time it was headed by the great scientist and inventor Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Here is just an amazing collection of different types of marine fauna. Also exhibited here are various items, navigational tools and equipment used in research expeditions or simply related to the sea: space suits, marine instruments, ship models and much more. The pearl of the Museum of Oceanography is its aquarium, located in the basement of the building.. There are mainly marine ecosystems of the tropics and the Mediterranean Sea (about 4,000 species of fish and 200 species of invertebrates). There is also a hall with whale skeletons, stuffed and skeletons of other marine animals, as well as the carcass of a giant octopus. The terrace of the museum is an excellent observation deck, which offers a wonderful view of the coast.

Be sure to include in the program of your stay in Monaco a visit to the Oceanographic Museum, founded by the glorious prince and scientist Albert I in 1910, which was led by Jacques-Yves Cousteau for 30 years (until 1988). The museum is located at the edge of a sheer cliff above the sea. The building has 2 facades: one faces the sea, the other faces the city. The names of ten ships that distinguished themselves in the exploration of the World Ocean are carved on the city facade, among them is the Vityaz corvette of Admiral Makarov.→
