Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Grob Nieznanego Zołnierza
Poland, Krakow
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Krakow is located on Jan Matejko Square, in front of the famous Grunwald Battle Monument. The symbolic grave, designed by the sculptor Victor Sin, is a rectangular granite pedestal with an eternal flame, the bowl of which is made of metal, in the form of flames reaching upwards. A commemorative plaque with the words "Fire in honor of the soldiers and martyrs who gave their lives for Poland" was fixed in front of the grave.
The eternal flame must be lit on September 1, in memory of the events of 1939, when Nazi Germany began to bomb Polish cities, starting World War II. The fire is also lit on May 3 - the Independence Day of Poland, as well as during other solemn ceremonies.
