Ruins of the city of Perge

Perga, Perga, Perge
Turkey, Antalya
The ruins of the ancient city, located 18 kilometers from Antalya, 2 kilometers from the village of Aksu. According to legend, the city was founded by the soothsayer Calchas after the Trojan War. To avoid raids from the sea, the city was founded 11 kilometers from the coast.
The amphitheater for 12,000 people was built in the first half of the 2nd century. The remains of the walls, which were 12 meters high, have been preserved from Hellenistic times. The southern gate through which visitors enter the city is called the "Roman Gate" and dates from the 4th century BC. Immediately behind them are the Hellenistic gates dating from the 3rd century BC. BC e. Along the edges of the gate there are towers of a rounded shape. Behind the gate is a small U-shaped courtyard with niches in the walls. Excavations have shown that statues of gods, emperors and the founders of the city once stood here.
To the left of the Hellenistic gate was the Roman bath (II century), which was considered the largest bath in Pamphylia. To the right of the Hellenistic gate on an area of 75 sq. m. there was an agora (II century). A wide road begins behind the Hellenistic gates. There are columns on both sides of the road, and a water channel once flowed between them. Adjacent to the colonnade were trading shops.

For 20 lira (only) I got a lot of pleasure. Namely: baths, afmitheater, columns, streets. Wandering around such places has always been better for me than lying on the beach. I don't regret the tour at all. The guide said that sometimes the amphitheater is closed to access, so it's better to check in advance when buying tickets - it's worth it. There is a minus and it is this: the place is not protected from the sun, worry about your sun protection yourself - water, cream, you understand)

The ruins of an ancient city from the time of the power of the Roman Empire. I appreciated the remains of the city bath most of all. Until the darkness of the Middle Ages, there was such a fairly high quality of personal hygiene. Also memorable is the Agora, which allows you to imagine everyday life in the city.
