The Taipei 101 skyscraper is located in the eastern part of the city. The 101-storey giant with a height of 509 meters was built in 2003. The design of the skyscraper is unique: to give stability (the city is located in the zone of winds and geomagnetic fluctuations), a 728-ton pendulum suspended on cables was installed between the 78th and 92nd floors. Taipei 101 has its own shopping and entertainment center and an observation deck; international major events often take place here.
